Changing email address associated with Xbox

Thanks, I will give this a try. I see it says that email addresses that are already in use under another alias cannot be used though. so am not sure if it will work as he already has a Microsoft account with his own email address, which is the one I want
to switch it to?

If that is the case it will not work since as you said it is already linked to another account. Why not using the family settings and have both accounts on the console, having it set as your account's home console? No need to have just one account on it,
