Changing email address associated with a gamertag to one already in family group

Hi Brad, thanks for the reply. child has an existing email address on family group with an associated gamertag. He has a new email address, and i need to add it to the family group and change the gamertag over to it. the new address is not attached to anything
at the moment - brand new.

any ideas how i get it onto the family group with the gamer info?

Ok, yes, it can be a bit frustrating, and they do so for security purposes. Your Microsoft Account is not defined by the email, but it is a controlling factor. The barriers in changing this are to prevent fraud on compromised accounts. Payment details,
subscriptions, purchases, etc are all tied to the Account, so you don't want someone to easily and fraudulently migrate your subscriptions and services away.

Anywho, on to the issue. You've added the alias to your Microsoft Account. Excellent. To verify this "new alias" is a new email account? That would be the best option to avoid any conflicts with existing emails that might already be Microsoft Accounts.

Now, sign into the account that has the alias you want to use on the Microsoft Account, and then click "Your info" at the top. On the next page click "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft". That should take you to the page where you can see the alias on
the account, and have the option to "Make primary" which is what you'd want to do for the email address you want to be primary on that account.

You can only use an email address without any gamertag linked to it.

You can only remove accounts from the family, if you are wanting to change the gamer tag associated with an email address you will need to get another email address to associate it with.

There is no way to swap to email around as these are bound to the account (depending if they are outlook emails).

If you are wanting to remove a gamertag from an account you would need to pay for it to be changed.

A gamertag is linked to a Microsoft account. You can create a new account and associate a new gamertag with it, but all accounts must have a unique email address. This email address can be an existing address, but it can't already be associated with another
account.

To recap... one email address = one gamertag. But you don't need to create a new email address.
