Changing Child's GamerTag Using Gift Card Funds

Mistyped child's (linked to parent acct) gamertag. Tried changing on the console but no go. It prompts for an address1. Couldn't find where to add it from the console.

Switched over to the browser and using the child's Xbox account found how/where to do it; however, it's prompting for the following:

A billing address

CC information

We have sufficient funds from a Xbox gift card. Need to use those funds.

Again, the account is for minor. Surely, we do not have to enter these types of information, e.g., address, phone, credit number, for a trivial name change to a child's account.

Prepaid Code - Different regions

When you purchase an Xbox gift card, make sure that the currency you use matches the currency associated with the recipient’s billing account. Otherwise, the recipient will be unable to redeem the gift card.

If you redeem an Xbox gift card in a country that doesn’t match the country associated with your billing account, you won’t be able to use those funds.

The funds in your Microsoft account can’t be transferred after you redeem your Xbox gift card.

You can’t use funds in your Microsoft account to purchase physical goods from online stores.

How do I change my child's gamertag?

No option in my account to change my child's gamertag. Do I need to do this as my child's account? And when it asks to add a credit card to my child's account to change the gamertag, can I remove the credit card? Thanks.

In order to make a purchase, even with currency, you do need billing information on file. The website will not see a Microsoft account balance as a valid payment option, so you would need to at least add a billing address before trying to make the purchase
on the console.

You can't use funds from a gift card to purchase a gift card.

With Microsoft Rewards points, once you earn enough points you can redeem an Xbox gift card to add funds to your account and then use those funds to purchase a gamertag change. The support person you spoke to was misinformed on how many points it takes.
Prior to the currency system Microsoft used points as currency and at that time it cost 800 Microsoft points to change a tag. Microsoft points are not the same as Microsoft Rewards points though so you would need enough points to redeem a $10 gift card as
well as a little extra to cover tax.

If you have Microsoft Rewards you can use points towards Microsoft funds. Otherwise, you would have to purchase a $10 gift card or use a credit card/Paypal if you're wanting to change your tag again. Asking for funds on the forum is not allowed.

Gift cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards. The Microsoft account balance is essentially the same as a gift card since funds typically come from Xbox gift cards.
