Changing avatar

Alright, I don't have a Windows Phone, I'm using Xbox live for my PC games. I have Windows 8.1 and I'm trying to figure this whole thing out. (Obviously failing, as I know I'm in the wrong forum.)

I'm trying to change my avatar. I first made my avatar some time ago when I was an angsty 17 year old. I'm wishing to change it but when I do on the website, it launches the Xbox Games app on my computer where there is no option to do anything with my avatar.

(I'm also wishing to change my gamer tag, which also doesn't seem possible.)

If anybody can give me any help, that would be fantastic.

Can't change my avatar

I would recommend changing your avatar online. I prefer that process a lot easier than doing it on the Xbox.

Does this error occur when changing the avatar on Xbox or when changing it on the website?

 

Does choosing new avatar affect the gamertag and xbox live account

changing avatar does nothing to your account just as changing your tag does nothing to your account

I figured out my problem. I needed to install Microsoft Silverlight onto my machine. I was able to successfully edit my avatar, but when I follow the link to edit my gamertag, it only asks me to edit it on my Xbox 360. I do not own a console and play my
games via PC.

Yeah, it just takes me "how to change your gamertag on Xbox 360 / Xbox One" page. I only own Microsoft games on PC and don't own a console.

 

IDK, have you tried to use the smartglass app to change it?

I am on Windows 8.1. When I tried to install SmartGlass, it would not let me as I don't have an Xbox. I only have a PC. That's my ultimate dilemma.

When I use the Games app pre-installed on my Windows 8 device to change my gamertag, it takes be back to the "How to change your gamertag on your Xbox 360" page.

I'm now pretty convinced that the only way you can change it is if you have an Xbox. :/

 

so doing this:

Windows 8 device (laptop, tablet, PC)

1). Launch the Games app that is preinstalled with the Windows 8 OS. No need to download this app from the app marketplace.

2). Scroll to the left where your avatar stands and select the "Edit Profile" option.

3). Make the desired changes to your profile, click "Save" and you're good to go!

Following the steps to edit my gamer tag did not work. I was unable to directly change it. It said "Change my gamertag on Xbox.com". It looks like this:

When I try to edit my gamertag via website, it looks like this: i1316.photobucket.com/.../gamertag2_zps772f76ee.png

This is the screen I get when following the links provided in this forum. There is no option to directly change it on the website, only instructions on how to do it on a console. I noticed that it stated I could change it once for free and I don't remember
ever changing it before. Even if I have, I am willing to pay a fee to change it.

Is there something I am doing incorrectly? Maybe I'm missing something.

 

weird, because it has my gamertag at the top, then my gamerpicture (it says I must change it on my xbox) not like that screen shot. you are able to change it for free once, have you tried to change it on a non windows 8.X computer?

 

I have not, but I can try to change it whenever my partner comes home with his Windows 7 laptop. Perhaps it will work then.
