Changing an Xbox Controller's setting from being recognized as player two to player one on...

Usually most fighting games that you want to play split-screen on the same Xbox require that each controller be signed into two different accounts. So player 1 with controller 1 needs to sign into an account, and player 2 with controller 2 will need to be
signed into their own account too. Then, when you are on the multiplayer screen in game, you should see both profiles detected as player 1 and player 2.

Another reason this is happening is that both controllers are assigned to the profile logged in as player 1. Xbox controller settings also allow a controller to automatically sign in and assign to a specific account once the controller turns on. Also make
sure that Co-pilot settings are turned off to prevent two controllers from being assigned to one profile.

Best way to assign controller's to the profile's is to go into your games and apps library and opening the Xbox Accessories app. Select the controller and scroll down to the 3 dots for more options. From here you can assign the controller to profile 1 (player
1) and profile 2 (player 2).

Figured it out! lol. the wife was playing DDR right before I got on, the controller was set in the player two position. Didn't want to select a device being player 2.

I am having the exact same issue. did anyone figure out how to get console toi recognize both controllers as player one and two?

If you have a charge cable, have player one hold the first controller and player two hold second controller with power off. Plug the cable into the usb slot on xbox and then on the second controller then see if it recognizes and binds it automatically.

I am having the same issue today and wanting to play a game with my son who is player one and I am player two. We have the Xbox series S Console with the game It Takes Two installed on it. Yesterday we played the game together for about one hour and then it was bedtime. We tried again today and the player two controller is signed in as well as the player one controller is signed in but the player two controller will not join into the game. What is the cause of this and how can we fix it?
