Changes to XBox Live policy, Re: swearing?

There are a number of articles circulating on the internet that seem to suggest that changes to the XBox Live policy will now mean that if you type a swear word into a game text chat (or office document???), that Microsoft
can remove access to your entire digital games collection. Both single player and multi-player.

    Is this true?

If so, how does this work. Do Microsoft refund you all the money you have spent over the many years of purchasing their digital products, or do Microsoft just keep it?

Why does typing a swear word in a chat box allow Microsoft to remove access to your single player games, I can understand removing multiplayer communication capability from those people incapable of being reasonable, but what have their single player games
    got to do with that?

Should I only buy physical content from now on, just in case I accidentally mistype in chat text?

Who decides what word is offensive?

How does that person decide what is offensive?

Who gets to challenge that persons definition of offensive?

What happens if a word is no longer considered offensive, or only some people consider it offensive and some people use it in a positive or self affirming aspect?

Do you get your games back if the word is no longer considered offensive by everyone, many, or only some people?

What happens if you use a word that means one thing in one language, but is offensive to everyone, many people, or only a few people in another language?

    Are swear word abbreviations allowed?

What happens if you use an abbreviation that turns out to be a swear word abbreviation, but you didn't know?

What about if someone substitutes another word for a swear word. Can they lose all their digital content if Microsoft figures out what the substituted word is meant to refer to?

What happens if you swear over an open mic in a boisterous multi-player game?

What happens if you swear in another language over an open mic in multi-player?

What happens if you stub your toe and accidentally swear over an open mic in multi-player?

It just raises so many questions.

    :)

    Some of you are right...

They are still doing a lot of damage control over at Xbox because of the policy changes they announced, but later changed. I think they're moving forward in the right direction, though.

That's nothing new. Profanity has always been a violation of the code of conduct. If you swear, you can receive a suspension. Multiple suspensions can lead to an account ban. Once an account is banned, you forfeit everything you had on the account. You do
not receive a refund for being banned.

There haven't been any changes to policy. How can you have been on Xbox Live for 10 years and not know that the policy has always been that the interactions on Live are to be rated E for Everyone? Swearing is swearing.

    New swearing policy?

    Hey Godpuncher,

    According to the
    Microsoft Service Agreement
    :

We may change these Terms at any time, and we’ll tell you when we do. Using the Services after the changes become effective means you agree to the new terms. If you don’t agree to the new terms, you must stop using
the Services, close your Microsoft account and, if you are a parent or guardian, help your minor child close his or her Microsoft account.

    Hope this helps!
