change one thing in a game

Elder Scrolls is either not open-world or stays more like an traditional rpg(and no, role-playing does not make a game an rpg.)

Bioware was never acquired by EA.

 

Role playing doesn't make a game an RPG? Not to be a ***, but doesn't the term RPG mean ROLE PLAYING game?

 

LOL. I can't believe the words this site censors. They ought to change the name to Walt Disneys Wonderful World of Xbox Forums.

 

Defining games literally is a horrible idea. What we really should do is define them by mechanics or interfaces. Unless you care to explain to me how The 7th Guest or The 11th hour are considered Adventure games.

 

I know. Just jerkin your chain, seeing as how much you love the genre. I like how Xbox defines the Assassins Creed games as RPG's. I always thought of them as action/adventure which makes your post above make even more sense.

I think the problem is is that games have evolved so much that what we used to know about them has become outdated and archaic.

 

Yeah, definitely. I think the term RPG means different things to different people. My definition is a game in which you acquire XP by defeating enemies and leveling up, thus making your character/party stronger through stat increases. But then again, that's
kinda RPG light. The more elements you introduce, like armor and weapon variety, skill trees, and crafting just make the experience deeper. That's my opinion and some people might want to throw rocks at me for defining them that way. That's just what they've
been pigeon holed as since the NES days.

I kind of agree to an extent. I loved the Ezio trilogy. AC3 was kind of meh with its story, but then I played AC4 and damnn. Complete improvement from the previous game. There's so much to do and the game is just really fun. I hope they keep some of the
pirate elements in the next AC games cause I really enjoy them.
