Change of gamer tag

Hello Xbox Support

I just bought an xbox, and I had had an xbox live account before because I played the game Gears of War on PC back in 2008.

Since I knew that Xbox was Microsoft I today just used my usual very old hotmail account to 'download' my profile. But I hate my name gamertag, which I did not notice, if you replace the q with a k you might find out why.

I decided to attatch 7 months of Xbox live gold on that account, which bugs me a lot because I found out that my name was bugging me a lot and I had to pay to change it.

i want to change my gt to TidalSnow but someone else has already got it and I don't want to replace one of the letters with numbers so if someone could suggest how I change it up a bit to use it that'd be great.

I've tried it with a space between as Tidal Snow but someone's got that too.

Welcome to the forums

Please can you not post support reference numbers out on these forums. These are classed as PII. As for your question, have you changed your gamertag before?

Also, you can change your name through your profile and through the xbox.com website. Simply click onto your Xbox Live Name on the top right hand corner of this website. This should take you to your profile. It should also include a picture of your Avatar.
Bellow your avatar, you will see some options. Click onto the 'Edit Profile' option, and this will allow you to change your account information, including your Gamertag.

When changing your Gamertag, you may have to pay £8.00 to change it. I don't know how long you have until the free name change ends. However I don't think it will last for 6 years though. However I might be wrong =/

Furthermore, I know they charge money for it which motivated me to write this topic which a support member told me to do.

I have never changed my Xbox live account gamertag before no.

The first part of my post was talking about the Support Reference Number that you had posted. This is not allowed to be posted on the forums, as it is your personal reference number for your support case that you have opened up with Xbox and Microsoft support.
If they need this, they will ask for it in Private message. When information like this is posted, other Xbox Live Members are able to ring Xbox Live and reference that number, opening and looking at your case with Xbox.

As for your Gamertag, Simply try changing it, it will tell you if it is charging you for it or not. When you first join Xbox Live, you get a free Name Change. Meaning that you are able to change your Gamertag. However I don't know how long this lasts for,
before it will start to charge you for your name change.

I hope I have explained the PII thing for you. PII stands for Personal Identifiable Information.

I have flagged it to a Forum Moderator, when they see it, they will replace it with "MOD Removed" so others cant see it.

As for the Gamertag, if you cant change it. You will have to pay to change it.

I want to know why Microsoft change my gamer tag and gave me a random gamer tag instead of letting me chose my own can someone please explain this to me !!!1

 

first do not bump old threads, second your tag was against the code of conduct and was thus given a random generated. you have two options keep the new tag or pay to change it to something else within the rules there is no more free name changes for violating
names.
