  1. Change my NAT from moderate to open on a D-Link 27050B

I have searched and searched and have not come up with specific instructions on how to do this. I did find the step by step tutorial on here, but it references the older version of the software (2009 post) for this router. My last update was 2013.

I am somewhat computer savy, but I am having such a hard time getting this to work. Port Forwarding, bridging, these are new to me as well. If I have an explanation/instructions on how to do this I usually can figure it out, but doing this blind could screw
up my WiFi if I do not do this right so getting some advice on how to do all of this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    :)

does ethernet xbox one download faster?

Sort of on topic: Will ethernet open up the NAT? Just changed routers and my NAT is now moderate vs. open before.

and I were actually talking about this the other day.

In both of our situations, our NAT is moderate via wifi, but open via ethernet cable.

  4. Change my NAT from moderate to open on a D-Link 27050B

    Hello

The easiest thing to do is set your Xbox to DMZ (demilitarized zone) on your router. This will place your Xbox "outside" of your network of the router
so you don't have to port forward and get an open NAT.

However this will reduce the security but it doesn't matter too much on the Xbox One since you can't install third party software which has not been made available through the marketplace. in order to put your Xbox in DMZ you need to get a static IP first,
    instructions are below

If however you do wish to port forward please follow the following steps. (I couldn't find a manual but it's basically the same for every router however some names may be slightly different)

This is what I want you to do

    1. On your Xbox while on the home menu press the menu button and select
      Settings
    2. From there you select Network

You might want to write down the information on the right side;Subnet mask, Gateway
    3. You then select Advanced settings This will allow you to configure your IP
    4. You select manual DHCP selection and you will be prompted to enter an IP

Try to make the IP in between 192.168.*.100 and 192.168.*.200

The " * " stands for the subnet which you can copy from your gateway as this can differ for some people gateway usually looks like 192.168.0.1 so just copy the 0 in this case

    5. After that you will be asked for the Subnet which you just copy from what your wrote down

    6. You also just copy the gateway from what you wrote down

You now have a Static IP for your Xbox One

    On to the next step

    1. Go on your computer and gain access to your gateway settings

This can be done by entering the gateway into a browser
    2. On the sub tabs select Port Range Forwarding
    3. In Start Port and End Port type in.
      • Port 88 (UDP)
      • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
      • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
      • Port 80 (TCP)
      • Port 500 (UDP)
      • Port 3544 (UDP)
      • Port 4500 (UDP)

On ports where it says UDP and TCP you can select
        Both from the dropdown menu
    .

4.In IP Address type in the IP Address of the
    Xbox.

5.Put a check in the Enable box.

    6.Select Save Settings.

Now you have opened the required ports for the Xbox One, there should only be one step left

    1. Click Setup across the top.
    2. Click Lan Setup from the sub tabs.
    3. Click the Pre-Assigned DHCP IP Addresses button.
    4. Enter in the Xbox's MAC Address and IP Address.
    5. Click Add Static IP.
Now Powercycle your Xbox and go back to network settings

    • Test multiplayer connection
    • Hold the bumpers and triggers on your controller to instantly load the detailed statistics
    • If your NAT says open behind a cone network you should be set

  5. I appreciate the Response. I will give it a shot tonight!

I do have a few more questions.

If it is easier to set the Xbox to DMZ then I am good with that. When you mention to make the IP in between 192.168.*.100 and 192.168.*.200,

I get this from my router settings, correct? The Subnet I will be asked for would be the
    Subnet mask, right?

Regarding the next step...If I set the Xbox to DMZ there is no need to port forward anything, right? Be gentle, I am learning this as I go..LOL!

Again, Thank you for your help!

  6. You need to set the IP on your Xbox to ensure you have a static IP, if you don't do this and other devices are connected it could be that your Xbox IP will change to another open IP.

let's say there are 4 devices connected then your Xbox will either be getting one of these internal IP addresses

    192.168.*.100 - 192.168.*.101 - 192.168.*.102 or 192.168.*.103

So if you set your Ip on your Xbox to something in between 192.168.*.150 and 192.168.*.200 you should be set and you don't have to set a DHCP reservation, which saves some times and trouble searching for it.

And in step 5 I mean, Subnet mask indeed, in step 4 however it's from the gateway the number that fills in the "*"

Sorry if it caused any confusion

And with DMZ you do not have to do any port forwarding, just enter your Xbox Static IP address in there and all should be set. Just to make sure, after all settings are saved on your xbox and router, perform a powercycle on your Xbox and unplug your router
    for about 30 seconds.

I would also like to add that if you have a gateway/modem attached to your router, you'll need to portforward your router on your gateway as not all devices support double DMZ

  7. Awesome, that helps!

The way the Xbox is connected is through a wireless connection. Nothing else is hooked up the Xbox as far as internet. In a perfect world, I would have it hardwired. Hopefully when I switch to a cable modem/wireless router I will have then be able to have
a another line run just for the Xbox.

Again, I really appreciate the time and help with this.

No problem, and yeah a wired connection is a lot better because other wireless devices or signal emitting devices can cause your wireless connection to become unstable
