  1. change in download speed when useing external drive.

basically, ive been having trouble downloading games lately and ive found the problem, kinda! downloading to Xbox internal drive, everything is fine, i get around 50Mbps which is what im supposed to get. However when i download to my external seagate hard
drive, it bounces around for ages, somtimes going as high as 100mbps and as low as 1mbps at which point it stops installing. Now the fact that it only does this when installing to my external hard drive, leaves no question that the hard drive is the problem,
but what part is my worrie... Do i need a whole new hard drive or just the cable that goes between the console and the external hard drive? Bearing in mind it jas worked without any issue at all for about a year now. Any ideas i would be very grateful?

    :)

More than just a gaming console

Hi all, new to forum, need to ask about external hard drives. We have the slim 360 250gb model. Now say I am up to about level 5 in a game and I want to go to a mates place and he has the same game.

Will any external hard drive be able to be connected to the USB port on the back of my Xbox and the my profile or game level downloaded to the drive, then I can just take the drive to avmates place, plug in and play when he puts the game disk in. Will i still be on the same level and then when I return home, can I download the level I amat from my mates onto my hard drive.....

If so what external hard drive would be the best and if not what do you recommend.

    Cheers

    Digitally purchased games won’t launch

Try to download games to internal drive next time, then if it play normaly you can move to external. With a bad download speed you may have corrupted files.

    Hello xX Mc Gomb Xx,

"Do i need a whole new hard drive or just the cable..." Well, it's kind of hard to tell for here. But, if there is a problem, it's more likely to be the HDD then the cable. When you say "external seagate hard drive", is that a USB laptop drive or a full
size HDD in an enclosure using an external power supply? The reason I ask is because in the past I have seen a significant discrepancy in performance between the two types of drives. With the higher RPM full size HDD having a much better and consistent transfer
rate. However, at this point I would recommend that if there is nothing on your external Seagate hard drive that you want and need to keep, use a Windows PC to

re-create and or re-format the disk partition
on your Seagate hard drive to NTFS. Again, make sure it is re-formatted to

    NTFS
. Also, be very careful when using Disk Management and Format Partition. Because if you click on the wrong button at the wrong time, things can go very bad very quickly. After you have done this, you can reconnect it back to the Xbox One where it will
ask you to "Format storage device" again for games and apps. Now, I can't guarantee that this will fix your particular external hard drive issues, but it won't cost
you any money to give it a try.

    Hate this XBOX ONE!!!!

    Recommendation = new internet provider.

My recommendation would be to not build a gaming machine that uses a 5400rpm hard drive.
not much of a speed difference with 5400 and 7200, besides my Xbox uses 5400 like everyone else and i have no speed issues with games or downloads, and if like me you use a usb3.0 7200 drive externally then the 5400 does not come into play when downloading
updates and games if the external is set as the "install here drive" so it is a mute point.

The difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm in loading times is there and the price difference between the two is negligible. There is no reason in today's gaming world to use a 5400rpm hard drive.

The benefit is there for loading times, for putting into RAM or running directly from the drive. The benefit is there for downloads.

That you can connect a quicker external drive to the Xbox One in no way renders moot the point that the console should not have had a 5400rpm hard drive internally.

But there IS a noticeable speed difference in booting, saving, and loading times, between an HDD and an SSD. Xbox introduces Xbox Scorpio with an internal HDD, lol.

Forza Horizon 5 is not able to download to an external drive.

All of my Microsoft and Xbox games are downloaded on my external drive including the previous Horizon, which is Forza Horizon 4. I changed where new apps are stored when downloaded from the Microsoft store to my external drive but it still wont download Forza Horizon 5 to my external drive. On the Xbox app it wont show my external drive as an option to download to. I am able to download any game from the Microsoft store and Xbox app to my external drive except Forza Horizon 5.
