Change gamertag free! or at least for substantially lower cost!

I don't understand why it has to cost so much to change such a little thing as my gamertag. I have purchased all 3 xbox consoles, and countless games for them over the years I think it would be fair to be able to change my gamertag with my new xbox one console.
Does xbox/Microsoft have to charge so much for such a simple service especially when we purchase so much from them? any help changing my gamertag would be appreciated

it says on the site that i can change my gamertag at least once for free i want to change it but its trying to charge me 800 mp

"You can easily change your Xbox LIVE gamertag or Zune tag. If your gamertag was created for you during Xbox LIVE sign-up, you can change the gamertag once for free. All other Xbox LIVE gamertag or Zune tag changes cost 800 Microsoft Points."

Hello everyone! Did you ever want to change your gamertag? Maybe you had a dumb name when you were 11 back on the 360, maybe your gamertag represents a dead game that you no longer play, maybe you simply just want a fresh, new cool name. Whatever the reason,
if you ever wanted to change your gamertag, you had to give Microsoft a "small" fee of $8. It's ridiculous, or at least in my opinion. Honestly, why not make it free. It feels like Microsoft just want to get more of your money. I think a good system for gamertag changing
would be that changes would be free, but you have to wait at least two weeks to change your name again. What do you think? Should it be free or should it cost money, and if so, how much? It would be great to see your opinions.

 

The main reason for charging is to prevent people from changing their GT too frequently. Since every gamer tag that's used then becomes blocked for anyone else to use. It also prevents people from changing their GT to troll.

 

They have had sales every now and then so you may want to look for those, although they are rare. At least Xbox gives you the option of changing your tag. Other services don't.

 

That is a good explanation and I agree with it but I think it costs too much like on ps4 its free but Xbox its $11.29! To change my gamertag its a ripoff at least lower the price to 3 or 4.99 not 9.99 that's way too much I could be spending that money on
something more important something that I need like food.

 

Actually you can't change your name on PSN without creating a new account.

I agree i cant change my username i used too since it was like 2.99 back in my day and my baby brother did this so i cant change it back it wont let me do it for free like it should
