i HAVE TRIED TO CHANGE MY GAMER TAG, IN THE OPTION IS SAYS I CAN DO THIS ONCE FOR FREE, SEEING AS I HAVE HAD THE ACCOUNT FOR 1 YEAR AND HAVE NEVER CHANGED IT, I DECIDED TO CHANGE TO SOMETHING MORE APPROPRIATE, ON DOING SO I WAS ASKED TO PAY 7.99, ANY REASON
FOR THIS AS IT IS THE ONLY TIME I HAVE TRIED.

Gamertag Change

I'm not sure if this is the right place or not, but I was just looking for new gamer tags today and I wasn't planning on changing it until I saw that I could change my gamer tag for free. I went to change my gamer tag and guess what? It wasn't free. Yes,
I have changed my gamer tag before. But that is false advertisement. I don't mind not being able to change my gamer tag without paying if it didn't say you can change your gamer tag free just this once, but it does.

Change gametag

When you first create your account you get a default gamer tag, it's usually two names and a number altogether. You can change it once for free, which it appears you have.

Gamer tag changes have been $9.99 for years now. No way to get it for free.

The free change is for new accounts or existing accounts first added to Live. The service gives a generic gamertag that usually has a set of numbers at the end. This can be changed to something else.

Seeing your gamertag as it is suggests you've already used the free change. As such you'll now be required to pay for any subsequent changes.

the free gamer tag change was only allowed when your gamer tag change was forced. People abused this by reporting gamer tags that people wanted to change so once a force change was made they then changed it again to what they wanted for free. Because
of that abuse of the system all game tag changes now cost even if a force change has happened.

Gamer tags don't reset. Please Note that Microsoft only allows you to change your gamer tag only once for free. if you want to change your Gamertag it's going to cost $10. gamer

not sure if you understood that right that is only for new accounts with randomly generated names within the first 30days

not current accounts that have had 2-3 name changes or older
