Change email for existing xbox live account

I have had my xbox live account associated with a hotmail account for a number of year. I've recently purchased a new laptop - and moved my pc login (and created a paid for OneDrive subscription) to an outlook.com account. I'd now like to associate my xbox
live account to the new outlook.com account but I can't seem to do this.

Overview

It is possible to change information associated with your Xbox LIVE account like your name, address, phone number or email address.

Note: You cannot change the country that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you have moved to another country and you would like to access Xbox LIVE from there, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

1) Go to My Account and Sign In with your Microsoft Account. (This is the email and password that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account).

2) Make the changes you want to your billings account information and then click Save.

1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2) Proceed to Settings, and then select Account.

3) Select Your Information, and then go to Billing Information.

4) Sign In with your Microsoft account password.

5) Change your billing account information and then click Done.

In case you want to change the billing name on your Xbox LIVE account, go to Xbox.com

 

Link LIVE account to MICROSOFT account.

I have an old LIVE account with a yahoo email address.

I want to change it to my new existing OUTLOOK email address.

Is this possible?

 

I should also say... I've tried to follow the instructions of changing the account (by creating an alias, and then making this new alias a primary) but when I attempt to add the outlook.com account (in the "add and existing account" field) I get the following
error...

"This email address is already taken. Please try another."

Hmm... why is this made sooooo difficult? Anyone know how to change an email account associated with an xbox live account?

Another possible route may be to back up all your important files and refesh/restore factory defaults the computer to connect the Microsoft account linked to your gamertag to your laptop. If your on windows 8, you can do this by going to the start screen,
find the settings app and then select the users section, you may be able to change the Microsoft account the laptop is connected to from there (use the same login information for your gamertag). I've recently obtained a new laptop as well and I used an existing
Microsoft account. You won't be able to change the alias to the outlook.com because its already another primary alias to the Microsoft account that's linked to your laptop. Hope this helps!

thanks for the response... but the issue is that I just paid for a one year subscription to OneDrive, so if I can't do this... I won't be able to access my OneDrive because it is associated with the outlook account. I had an inlking that I should have stayed
with Dropbox... ironically, I was doing just what Microsoft would like (wish) it's customers were doing, merging everything down to Microsoft controlled accounts... but, if issues like what I'm experiencing are how Microsoft has designed things, Microsoft
actually put technical barriers in place due to poor design) that impede their strategy.

 

I agree, but you've already went through everything I can think of to get it setup with just one Microsoft account for all your devices. The next best thing is to get a refund on the subscription for the onedrive so you can purchase it on the other Microsoft
account, and then try to restore your laptop to connect it do a different Microsoft account.

 

Thanks for the response. I have contacted MS and they agreed to give me a refund for the OneDrive subscription. Also, for anyone that is really annoyed with OneDrive being in your face in windows 8.1... I used the following link to remove it. I'm going back
to DropBox - no account BS with Dropbox... just nice integration across platforms and accounts. Removing OneDrive is a bit of a pain, but worth it....
