change display name

my son has linked my email address to his xbox, he has used the name Ben Plays as his name so when I send emails it comes up as Ben Plays how do I change this please?

account.live.com/summarypage.aspx.

Just click Edit display name and change the first name to David or any other name you would like.

 

Changing Display Name.

I know how to change my display name so that it says my name whenever kinect signs me in, but the connected Account is my father's and I was wondering if there was any way that I could maybe change the related email address or do something else so that changing
my display name does not change the display name for my dad's Microsoft account.

 

If it's the Microsoft account name you're talking about, go here:
https://account.microsoft.com/profile/ and click "edit name". That name will show up when you send emails. Please note it could take a couple days or so to change across all systems, and it also could be immediate.

it shouldn't show the gamertag when you will write an email on your provider...

it is an outlook account??

 

Hi there,

I know which name you are asking about. It use to be you would go to
www.account.microsoft.com > Edit Profile, and you can change the name. It would also change the name that the console would use to greet you.

I was unable to find where to do it online (believe me I looked). Here are the steps I took to change the name (which will then change it across other MS products.

From the Xbox App.


Click on your gamerpic/profile.

Select Customize.

From there Select
Share Real Name. There it will say that you're sharing your real name.

Select Update Settings. That page will say "Here's how you'll look".

Click Edit
on the right.

Now you can change the first and last name. Then click Confirm.

On the Here's how you'll look page, click Next.

Make sure the Choose who sees your name is correct and click Next.

On the Here's what you chose page - if all looks correct, click
Done.

Finally, on the profile page click
Save.

It may take a little bit before the update makes it across all MS products.

Hello, does this have to be done from the xbox app, as I haven't got this, is it the same from going on the account through your Microsoft email, as I can't figure it out

 

You can do the same thing on this page
https://account.microsoft.com/profile/ and click "edit name" under your name on that page. That is your real name on your microsoft account. You don't need to use the xbox app as this does this same thing.

 

No this doesn't change the display name just your name, it's driving me mad, why can't you just change it simply cheers anyway

 

If this is not your gamertag, which is "BenPlays", then you should be able to change it in your email settings. Log into your email and look for preferences or options and look for your name or the signature settings to change it.

If the name you're talking about IS "BenPlays" then you will have to purchase a gamertag change.
