Certain games won't start following a game freeze

About an hour or so ago, I had started up Halo 5 and was in a party with my friend when the screen went black and froze, causing me to restart my console. Following that, I tried to play the Halo 5 again, only to have it pop up with a black screen for only
a second, briefly showing a message stating "Getting your game ready" for about less than a second.

It would seem that only Star Wars: Battlefront works, but I believe that it works simply because I had to sync player data when I put the disc in following the freeze.

Additionally, digital only games don't work as I tried to run the Master Chief Collection, and the same problem occurred.

That previously posted soft factory reset is a fantastic troubleshooting step for sure.

Your videos don't work , but no biggie ....might have messed with your profile when it froze , you can try this ,

go into settings and remove all the profiles , (make sure you have the email and password to get them back ) after you remove the profiles , shut the xbox down by holding the xbox logo on the console for 8 seconds till it powers down , while it is off ,
unplug your modem and router for 30 seconds to clear them also , plug the modem and router back up and when they are online , turn the xbox back on , when it is all the way up . re add your main profile ...it may sit there and sync a little while but all SHOULD
be good afterwards ...

 

Do you think it the method would work even if I couldn't access the modem and router? I'm on a university campus and can't unplug it.

 

Seems to not have worked. The problem is still occurring even after I removed and then re-downloaded my profile.

 

well , that sucks...you could try and delete the LOCAL game saves from the console and then get them back from the cloud , if still no you might have to uninstall the game , delete the local saves , then reinstall it...

 

Deleted local game saves, and the problem still persisted. Also tried to uninstall games to see if I could resync player data through a reinstall only to find out that I can't uninstall games either. Also seems that the problem not only affects games launching,
but apps as well.

I know the next step may be a factory reset, but with the size of the game files now, I really don't want to have to download all those games again if there is some other solution available.

For now, I guess my xbox will simply be a Battlefront console.

 

dang , that freeze really did a number on you ...the factory reset may be the only hope , not really sure what else you could try...its really not that bad to re install if you have descent internet , just do them one at a time , start one before you crash
for the nite a let it do its thing...

 

Luckily I have an external hard drive that can hold all my games, so I'll just transfer them to there and it shouldn't be as time consuming to get them all back after the reset. I'm just hoping that the game files themselves aren't corrupted in some way.
