    My nephew wants a capture device as he doesnt have a pc for a capture card. Can any of you recommend one that provides good quality and is easy to use? Would be good if you have links to videos you have captured with it.

    Video capture devices

    The Blackmagic Intensity series of capture devices are also a great choice and can be bought for about the price of an HD PVR. The only downside to them is that your computer needs to meet strict requirements to use them correctly.

    I want to record gaming sessions and from what I've researched, the HD PVR seems to be the most popular. Can anyone reccommend any other decent video capturing devices?

    How much hard drive space does he have on his laptop?

    Capture devices don't tend to compress the video, so files can end up huge in size.

    So not only would he need space for the captured video but also room to edit it.

    Yeah, the space sure does fill up pretty darn quick. Even on a TB if the footage is frequently captured and not moved or edited, the TB will fill up rather quickly. I mean you should be good, but just bare in mind that like vote said, they don't get squashed
    into small sizes at all.

    @ hell you can send the clips 30sec to 5 min to your skydrive account and they end up as H.264 files. you can then access them of any PC and chuck them into any editor you like or send them straight to youtube twitter whatever.

    right, the external devices are going to give you greater freedom to record and edit clips on your PC. The original HD PVR though only accepts component so you will need converters. the HD PVR 2 will hook in seamlessly.
