  1. Capture Card failure - "Signal Protected" message

I have a Roxio GameCap HD Pro capture device that I use to record and stream. However, when I now try to use it with my One to capture gameplay, it tells my the signal from the Xbox is "protected" and it won't let me record or stream. This happened before
when I first got the One. I found out from the Roxio support site that the Xbox One automatically protects the output signal if you set up the HDMI pass through to use with something like your cable box - thus preventing you from capturing/streaming anything.
The only way to reverse this was to restore the factory defaults on the console and not set up the HDMI pass-through. I did that and had no problems until this week.

Currently my capture card says once again that the signal is protected. I have not messed with the HDMI pass-through but I have downloaded apps like Netflix and Twitch. Is there any solution to this issue other than wiping my console by restoring the factory
defaults and not using it for anything other than playing games?

    :)

You don't need to set back to factory defaults every time. you can either hold the power button for 10 secs or turn off "instant on" and reboot your xbox. The HDMI protection kicks in when you use Netflix or TV,thing like that. And stays on until you Hard
    reset your Xbox.

    HDCP question

I think some games use HDCP if it's available, but not entirely sure. Pretty much like you found out its main use is protecting media content and not games.

    -

As for getting a capture card to game on your Macs monitor I wouldn't as there will probably be a bit of lag induced as the capture card precesses the video and compresses it. You can get HDMI spliters that will let you use a monitor and capture card at
the same time if there is no HDCP.

I think last I checked for a capture card I read a review on one that would spoof HDCP for capture and then it had a passthrough to connect to a monitor. If HDMI is to expensive then Component or VGA capture cards will work and there is no content protection
with a slight quality drop off, but 360 games aren't the best looking to begin with.

Is there a way I can display my Xbox 360 in my laptop screen with an HDMI cable?

unless you purchase an external capture card then there is no way to vies it on the laptop, the hdmi port on a laptop is for sending a signal not receiving.

    DP to HDMI

Hey Jameel, thanks for posting your question to the forum.

Yes, you can stream from your Xbox One X with OBS Studio using a DP to HDMI adapter, but you’ll still need a capture card. The adapter will get the HDMI signal from your Xbox, and the capture card will send that signal to your PC. Your GPU will handle rendering and encoding, but it won’t directly capture the Xbox output. Once everything’s hooked up, just add the capture card as a video source in OBS, and you’ll be good to go.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

HDMI & S-Video at the same time?

No, I don't think it is possible, I have had the same issue, but it seems it is either 1 or the other.

Obviously you can use spliter cables so the video signal goes to the capture card and the tv, so you can see the picture on both your tv and the capture device (pc) but this means having to play on SVideo whilst capturing footage!
