  1. Can't validate Friend requests in XBox app from child account

    Hi!

I recently created a microsoft child account for my son, linked to my own account. I'm the family administrator. Everything seems to be correctly configured. I can see screentime, block apps, etc.

If he adds friends in the XBox app, the app asks him to send a permission request to the family administrator (me). But I don't receive any email or notification in the Microsoft Family UI.

A short search tells me a lot of other people have the same problem, but the only "fix" is to disable restrictions on the child account temporarily, which is not an option for me.

However I do get the weekly activity email for the child account. So general email communication between the MS account and my email address is OK.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Pascal

    :)

Can't validate Friend requests in XBox app from child account

    Hi Kathy,

thanks again for the quick reply!

I actually found the solution a few minutes ago : There is a separate "Xbox Family Settings" app for Android. And in this app, I get the notifications I was looking for. There I can approve or refuse his friend requests.

So basically, you need 2 apps : "Family Settings" to manage children Microsoft accounts and "Xbox Family Settings" to manage what they are allowed to do in Xbox-related stuff.

If Microsoft would have linked to this app in the family.microsoft.com page, that would have saved a lot of time..

    Link to the app :

    Thanks for your help!

    Best regards,

    Pascal

Can't validate Friend requests in XBox app from child account

    Hello Pascal Paulis,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forum. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well.

We understand that you are trying to allow your child to make friends however the permission for managing this feature did not notify you nor has been part of Microsoft Family UI. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner.

Reason it is not on Microsoft Family it is because it is not general settings and need to be change all the time. To ensure you can manage your child activity in Xbox this feature is on the Xbox account itself or you can manage it through the Xbox Console. You will have to visit your account's Xbox profile and go to settings and you will see on Privacy the gamertag of your child. The settings is only used and manage by the parents/guardian or the Microsoft Family organizer. Please try and look for the things you can enable in your child's account.

    1. To do that, please go to this link: https://account.xbox.com/Settings
    2. Sign in with your account (Microsoft Family organizer).
    3. Look for your child's gamertag and select it.
    4. Click Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety.
    5. Set to Allow on choices that would be beneficial and safe for your child.
    6. Click Submit to save the settings.

Can't validate Friend requests in XBox app from child account

    Hi Kathy,

thanks for the quick and thorough reply!

I understand now, that this kind of control features are in the xbox account settings. Thanks for pointing this out.

What I'm trying to do however is to see the friend requests my son is asking approval for through his XBox app in his Microsoft account. Every time he tries to add a friend, he gets the following prompt :

The english translation would be "Ask for approval to add this friend. Your approval request goes to a parent or another administrator of your Microsoft Family group."

The fact that he gets this prompt makes me think that I should get somewhere a notification for each of his approval requests. I'd like to check with him personally if it's someone he knows in real-life before adding him/her to his friends list.

So this prompt is exactly what I'm looking for. But it will only work if I can see these approval requests somewhere in my parent account.

    Thanks!

    Pascal

    Hello Pascal Paulis,

You're welcome! Thanks for your update.

It really has to be two for Family apps indeed. That is a brilliant idea to have this two apps into one. We would recommend you send this suggestion to Team Xbox.

Please use the Xbox Family Settings app and see if there is a feedback option for feature request in there. Or you may use this link - Microsoft Family Safety · Community

    Hello Pascal Paulis,

    You're welcome!

I was wondering if that prompt will show if you have allowed your child to send a request. Have you tried selecting the request approval button? Then, checked your email regarding the request?

We'll check this with the Internal Support Team to see if this this request can found be elsewhere.
