Can't use US location game code for US location account.

In order to use a region locked code, your account region and your physical location have to match. If you're not physically located in the region the code is for, it won't work.

I am sorry but we do not recommend here switching account region or location if it's not your real or physical location. It may be violative to the Terms of Service from Microsoft. I suggest that you tell your friend to ask a refund instead if the code can't be used anymore.

You can try to locate your console, entering HERE.

The only way to locate it is using the serial number on your console, so try looking for it in that page.

In case you can't find it, you can still change your Microsoft Account Password, in that way the person will not be able to use your data and games.

My guess your issue isn't the codes but something else

Typically with gears codes there is a 90% chance it's an issue with your accoumt

First and foremost the codes are universal

It doesn't matter if you are in russia

As long as you don't live in Japan or china or any non Xbox live regions you can claim the games

And yes the Games do check for your geoip

To redeem the codes your account region and actual region and very importantly your console and language region must be the same and FYI us foreign bases don't count as the us

For example

Us account region + francephysical location + us language = fail

France account region + France location + French console and language region = bliss

France account region + France location + us console region and us language = fail

Us account region + Cuba or any non Xbox live physical location + us console region and language = fail and this one can't be fixed you have to wait till your region is supported

China and Japan are excluded from the promotion as they are banned in those regions

Follow the above link to change your region and yes you have to use your actual region unless you don't live in an Xbox live region then nothing can help you
