Can't use controller to Navigate Dvds/Blu-ray

    Hi there,

Today something strange has happened. Until now I could always use my controller to watch movies, for example; navigating the dvd/bluray meny, pressing play, ext. However today I couldn't do any of that. I pushed a bunch of random buttons and I think the trigger
    helps at least press play.

But other than it's like it has changed, can't move through options like scene selection like I usually could, it's like it simply doesn't work and all of the buttons except the "select button" and I think the "trigger" to press play don't work. It comes up
with the red circle cross button at the top of the screen indicating the buttons aren't working.

Any one else have this problem? Like I said it's weird that I all of a sudden can't watch some movies. (Some movies don't automatically have play selected so I can't watch them at all)

    :)

    Playing Blu-Ray on Xbox One

    Hello everyone!

Xbox One is introducing an awesome new feature to watch Blu-Ray discs on your console. You can accomplish this by installing and setting up the
Blu-Ray Player App from the marketplace. Here are some steps to install the app

using either your controller or voice commands
    .

As with other Blu-Ray players, your Xbox One console is under the same region restrictions when trying to play Blu-Ray and DVD media, so make sure that you are using a disc that is compatible with your console. For more information on DVD and Blu-Ray regions
you can check out our page on
Playing Blu-Ray and DVD movies on Xbox One
    .

Once you’ve got your movie running, you’ll be able to use your controller for playback and advanced controls using the shortcuts outlined in our

    Controlling Blu-Ray and DVD discs
    article.

Now all you need is popcorn and you're ready for movie night!

Xbox One: Blu-ray and DVD movies

I would check out the Xbox page for Blu-ray playback regarding regions. But yes, your Xbox One can certainly play DVD and Blu-ray movies.

Xbox One X recognizes no backwards compatible 360-disc / triggers no download

    Hi,

Sounds like the laser in your console's Blu-ray drive has a hardware issue.

To test if your Xbox One X has issues reading discs, try playing a DVD movie disc. If can't read DVD movie discs either then your console has a hardware fault.

Note: It must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

There are two lasers in the Blu-ray drive, one for reading Blu-ray discs and one for DVD discs. Xbox One games use Blu-ray and the 360 console used a DVD drive.

Does it at least control blu-ray/dvd playback on the system?

Impossible to use controls with some DVDs using the Bluray player

    Hello cn boda,

Thank you for letting us know how you managed to find another way to play DVD in your Xbox One console.

You can use your Xbox controller or a USB keyboard to control both Blu-ray Discs and DVDs that you’re playing in the Blu-ray Player app on your console. You can check this link for your reference: Control Blu-ray and DVD discs on your Xbox console | Xbox Support

I hope this will help you how to control your DVD when playing using the Bluray player app on your Xbox One Console.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

Xbox One X only reads XB1 game dvds

    Hi,

The optical drive in the Xbox One is a Blu-ray drive. Xbox One discs are on Blu-ray disc, same as HD Blu-ray movies. Xbox 360 games came on DVD disc.

Oversimplifying my explanation a little, the Xbox One has separate lasers for reading DVD discs than it does for reading Xbox One blu-ray discs.

The laser that is used to read DVD's has failed. This isn't a software issue, it's a hardware one. Unfortunately you can't fix this yourself, you'll need your console repaired. Sorry.

DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
    Blu Ray players.
