Can't update additional security info - Error 80048105

Hello,

Occasionally the Xbox asks me to add additional contact information to send security codes to, e.g. phone and an alternative email. I already have my phone registered, so I chose to add an alternative email. I can successfully enter the email address (in
this case gmail), I get the confirmation code, but once I enter the confirmation code and submit I get the error "Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Code: 80048105"

I already tried several times and the error persists. The error code search return nothing.

Does anyone know how I could fix that?

Hey Clair! Sorry to hear you can't buy points. Have you made sure that your billing info on your method of payment matches the billing info on your Xbox Live account?

I would also make sure you have Security Proofs setup on your account. You can checkout our

Seems like you're trying this on the console when you go and update your security, not really gonna help you out much doing it on there. Go here:
account.live.com/summarypage.aspx and update your security okay? Let me know if you need anymore help.

 

Very poor instructions TrippIE.

Go to account.live.com, sign in, then click on "Security and password", it may ask you to verify your identity with a security code, follow the prompts, once you are in, click on "add an alternate email" and "Add a phone", once that's done, go back to your
xbox, turn it off and then back on, and see if it gives you the same issue, if it does, you may need to delete your profile (profile only), clear your system cache X5, turn your xbox off and then back on, then re-download your profile.

 

Thanks for your answers guys, I guess that would be it but I get following message on account.live.com when I try to add the alternate email:

"There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later."

I guess I need to contact Microsoft support to help me here...

They wont help you with that, TRUST ME, try a diff web browser, or another pc, if you call them they will tell you that, trust me, there's a reason I know.

And I am talking about the error message you are getting.

 

Im sorry. Please use a computer with IE also known as Internet Explorer. It works a ton more on that browser.

 

Looks to me like it is an error on their servers (as it happens on XBOX and in the browser), but I tried with Internet Explorer too, on another computer as well just to make sure. Same error, at least it is consistent

I was playing around a little more and it seems to be really a question of browser or at least the browser cache status, I tried with Firefox and it worked! While I suspect that it had nothing to do with the browser, I guess cleaning the browser cache and
a new login on account.live.com will help to solve the issue.
