can't switch xbox account region to accept gift

I'm canadian but am living in Australia until next year. A coworker gifted an Xbox game to me through the online Xbox store, but I was unable to redeem the code for it because my account region was still set to Canada. I changed my region to Australia in the "Edit country/region" section of my Microsoft account settings, as well as changing it in the "Language & location" section of my Xbox One settings and restarting my Xbox. However when I try to redeem my game code, it still says I can't accept it because the game was purchased in a different region from my account.

The Xbox support site says that in addition to what I've already done, I should also "Sign in to your Xbox profile, Select Next, Select the region from the drop-down box, Select I Accept" but I cannot figure out where I'm supposed to do this, as the only "Xbox profile" page I can find is the one where I've already changed my language & location settings to Australia. Another page on the Xbox support site tells me to go to https://account.xbox.com/AccountMigration, but when I proceed it gives me a "There’s a problem completing your move right now. Please check the Region Change Support Page to make sure it will work for you, and try again later" message. The Region Change Support Page doesn't seem to exist.

Can anyone help with this? What is stopping me from fully switching my region / being able to redeem my gifted game code?

It's not 100% guaranteed but you can use a VPN. If the code was purchased in X region, that region is where you have to connect the VPN. It would not be necessary to change the region of your account.

After turning on the VPN try using the code using this link. Make sure you are logged in to the account you want to link the code to.

Well two things you can buy a game on xbox store Argentina and get mexico

Game codes are region locked and cannot be cross bought

And please edit the picture as you don't want anyone else to redeem the code

If your account is an Mexican account you cannot GIFT a code to an Argentina account

Gifting is REGION locked

And xbox store Argentina will not accept Mexican creditcard for purchases it has to be a local card to the region

If you did it via yoir account that's why the codes are region locked

My friend gift me minecraft but his region and i are different.
I don't know to able to accept the gift code.

You cant. Your friend will have to request a refund for the code and purchase a code for you that is meant for your region. The region of the code must match the region of your account.

If it is correct, you must change the region of your account so you can accept the gift. Since if the account belongs to a different region, you will not be able to do so.

Smwutches is correct. Gift cards are region locked to the region they were purchased in or the region where that currency is accepted. For instance the code you purchased will be for Euros the UK does not accept Euros as payment.
