Can't start xbox one and can't do offline update or total reset while keeping games

I've been trying to start my xbox one since yesterday. It doesn't even load the home or anything, i just keep getting the error screen with the two following options: "restart this xbox" and "troubleshoot". I tried following the steps written in the support
page. I can't do the hard reset and keep my games, i only get the option to remove everything. I tried to do the offline update, but when the update download is at 70%, the xbox shuts down and goes to that annoying error screen again. I think this problem
may be related to the update. What can I do to fix this without having to delete everything?

Sorry, forgot you can't get to settings. You will need to use the Offline System Update Diagnostic Tool instead to reset things:

support.xbox.com/.../offline-system-update-diagnostic-tool

when selecting the update file, since you can't check in the setting to see exactly which version you have, a good rule of thumb is that if your console has taken updates before, start with OSUDT2 or the Factory Reset file.

Do you think it would be smarter to do a factory reset first, or should I jump straight to an offline update? I already downloaded the offline update onto a USB drive, but I'm nervous I might mess something up since I'm not the most "software" savvy and

You might have to choose the option to do a full factory reset (Delete everything) what is the part that prevents you from choosing that option?

if your console was usually connected to Xbox Live, you shouldn't lose save games and digital purchased games can be redownloaded via the account that purchased them. So you shouldn't loose anything, assumming you know your account details etc.

 

What prevented me is that I wasn't sure I wouldn't have lost my save games and also that it would take like a week to redownload everything. A question: will i have to redownload only the games on the internal hard drive or even all the others i have on
my two external drives?

 

Also ... if I do that, will i keep my single player saves? Or only the multiplayer saves?

 

Hi,

you only have to redownload your games on the internal hard drive, I would advise to disconnect the external before executing the factory reset though.

Regarding the save games, both multiplayer and singleplayer should be synchronized with Xbox live, assuming the console has been connected to Xbox Live.

After the reset when starting a installed game it will show a pop up with synchronizing the save game.

Side note: even a Factory reset with keeping Games & Apps installed will require this synchronization of save games.

So in short, in a normal situation (when the console was connected to Xbox Live prior to having issues) you should not loose any save game progress (both Multi and single player)
