cant sign into live

My son got his cousins Xbox 360 we have connected it all to the internet and is all connected fine. Made an avatar then went to connect to live as he bought himself Xbox live gold.

The problem is when we go to add email address the symbols sign is down lightened therefore we can't input the email address as we need to use a . for co.uk

I was on live chat with Microsoft for 2 hours and they couldn't resolve the issue there idea was to buy a keyboard which I do not intend to spend more money just to input my email address.

Any advice would be grateful as my patience is wearing thin now over something that should be so straight forward.

Cant sign into live

Ive tried everything to sign in, from rebooting router to changing IP address. can someone help me please?

 

What you can do is create the account online at Xbox.com and then sign in to, and download, that profile on the console (rather than going through account-creation on the console) and this should circumvent the screen giving you the problem.

I have set up an account online at Xbox.com but once my son clicks onto his profile it asks him to sign in on the Xbox and takes him to the page where it asks to Entre the Microsoft account email for this profile. this is where we can not input the email
address as the symbols are down lightened. This is now driving be crazy, I have been on live chat with Xbox who cannot help. Wonder if I reset the Xbox back to factory settings this will help.

 

You said you have an image of this - if you upload it to any image-sharing site (eg Imgur, Flickr, OneDrive, Google Drive, or whichever you want to use) you can paste the link here and I can maybe see what's going on.

It might be helpful to have images of the process up to that point too, but please blur out personal information (like names and email addresses) - I mostly just want to see the screens you went through to get there and the on-screen keyboard that's presenting
the issue.

Then it takes me into the first picture which I can not sign into as the symbols are down lightened.

There is already someone's account signed into the other avatar (This is my cousin's sons account) wondering if this is why we cannot sign in. I can not delete their account.

 

Does the full stop/period (".") stay greyed out even after you begin typing? My initial reaction on that image is that it's greyed out because you've not typed anything yet (no email address would start with a full stop), but if it's still greyed out when
you begin typing then it's an odd issue.

Additionally, it looks like the other account is already signed in. You don't need to delete it, but you can try signing it out before trying to download the other profile. Press the Guide button (central, bulging button on the controller) and then press
the X button to sign it out.

Now go through the steps of downloading the other profile. I'm not sure this should actually make a difference, but it's worth trying in this instance.

 

I have re set the Xbox back to factory settings which took my cousins account off.

I then created a new profile

which took me into Add Name where screen is fine with symbols sign there.

then it takes me to next page where it asks to enter email address this time the symbols sign is down lighted so I can not get the dot symbol to type in my .co.uk

I have tried changing keyboard settings to English Qwerty but when I go into Language Locale the only option is English Not English Qwerty. Think I need to give in and buy a keyboard :-(

 

I'm confused as to why it's greyed out, but you're also the second person who's reported this in the past week. It's certainly weird and I don't know what could remedy it.

At this point the keyboard might be the only viable solution. If you already have a USB keyboard, you can try that. Alternatively, if you have a wireless keyboard with a USB dongle that has a connect button (i.e. there's a USB stick you plug into your PC
that has a connect button, usually on the underside) then this should also work; I've done this myself with a Bluetooth keyboard where it had come with a Bluetooth USB dongle.

If there's not one you can borrow and it comes down to needing to buy a keyboard, there are some cheap ones to be found; for instance, my local supermarket has a basic USB keyboard for £6, so don't go to any unnecessary great expense here.

Sorry I couldn't solve this for you, but I hope you get it resolved with a keyboard.
