Can't sign in to Microsoft Account in Xbox app

Hello all,

I have an issue that I've had for maybe a year now and I can't solve it whatever I do. I bought Forza Horizon 4 from the Microsoft Store for over a year ago which worked fine and I played without any issues. But a while ago I couldn't play anymore, whenever I start the game it just says that I need to have a profile to continue. Then I have no other options than to close the game. When I open the Xbox app on my Windows 10 PC I can see that I am signed in under "Store Account" but I can't sign in to the "Microsoft Account"- section. Nothing happens when I try to sign in.

I have tried all the suggestions online like uninstalling the Xbox Live things and all that. Believe me when I say that I've tried everything.

The only thing I can come to think of that may be the issue is that I changed my primary email address on my Microsoft account a while ago and maybe the game is stuck with my old email address somehow? Sounds strange but I can't come to think of anything else.

Anyone that has any ideas? I have bought a game that I can't play anymore, so frustrating.

Hello Georges, thank you for replying to my question. Yes I have Windows 11 version 21H2. I unfortunately can't download the Xbox companion app due to the problem of being unable to sign into a Microsoft account on my computer. I am able to sign into my Microsoft account on the Xbox and Microsoft website its just the apps I have trouble signing in to.

I don't get any kind of error messages with error codes. Just that when I try to sign in with the Xbox App and I press the "Sign In" button, nothing happens. It won't even let me sign in. When I launch the game, the game opens and the intro is played. Then it says I need to have a profile to continue.

On the computer, the game uses the Xbox profile that is signed into the Xbox app, but it can cause issues if the account that is signed into the Microsoft store is different than the one signed into the Xbox app.

So, please check if your Microsoft store account and the Xbox app account are the same and they are your main account. If possible, sign out of both apps, then sign in again.
