Can't Sign in if not connected to internet Xbox one

So I heard that a person I know had gotten rid of his Xbox One due to it preventing him from signing in when he lost his internet access during a couple weeks where he was struggling for money, so I decided to disconnect my console from my internet connection
and try to sign in. Sure enough, it gave me an error message informing me that I wouldn't be able to sign in until I connected to xbox live. Then I tried again and it let me sign in for about 10 seconds before signing me out by itself. Now after a few times
of trying it is now letting me sign in without any issues. But even then it shouldn't have been a problem to do the first time. I'm a strong advocate of Xbox and Xbox Live but for a console that claims to be useable offline to require you to be online to sign
in or create a new profile, and then require you to be signed in to even launch a game is kind of dumb.

Signing in

why can't i sign in? There's nothing wrong with my internet everything's connected but won't sign me in. Not happy about this

Is this your primary console? If so, go to Settings>Home Xbox and set this console as your Home. Being on a non-Home console should be the only reason you have to be online to launch a game, so by extension could be the reason you cannot use your profile
offline.

I can't, it says that it's not connected to the internet. My xbox one is connected to the internet but when I try to play a 360 game on the xbox one it says that it can't connect to the internet.

What if I were to take my Xbox One on a business trip for a week and there's no Wifi in my hotel? I can't use my Xbox because I can't connect to the internet? That's why it's good that the mandatory check in is gone.

Im having the same problems. Randomly can't sign in to XBOX live, yet other times I get on no problem. Each time I can't sign in, it says I can connect to my network and the internet, but can't sign in to LIVE

I've tested the internet connection and it seems to be fine. The Xbox shows that it is connected and I ran the Xbox internet speed test and it seemed to be fine. I can connect to the Microsoft Store and download games/apps. None of my other devices
have any issues with connecting and using the Internet.

Internet connection issues can also mean something as simple as your Neflix password. I get booted out of my automatic Hulu. sign-in every time our power goes out, and have to reset it. It can't hurt to double check what password XBox has saved to sign you
into Netflix to make sure it's.the right one.
