Can't sign in/download profile - nothing wrong with account

I've spent four hours trying to fix this problem, so please forgive me if I sound a little snappy(I'll try not to).

I cannot sign into my Xbox live account on my Xbox 360. Using the exact same login information, I can sign into the account on my PC and Xbox One. Initially I had an identity verification app set up(Microsoft account app on Android), which I disabled three
hours ago in an attempt to resolve the issue. Disabling this app did not help resolve the issue.

I also cleared the cache of the HDD and removed my profile from the Xbox 360. Now I cannot download my profile either, the error message shown is "Sorry, there's a problem with the credentials that you're using to sign in. Go to
https://account.live.com to fix the problem". Following the instructions and going to https://account.live.com does not fix the problem, give the
slightest indication of what the problem actually is, or even give an error message.

I am typing my email address correctly, I am typing my password correctly, I no longer have any kind of secondary authorisation on the account, I have reset the console multiple times and given it time to breathe in between. The account activity page(Sign in to your Microsoft account)
shows every single sign-in attempt as "Incorrect password entered", the password is not incorrect.



Please help, this is infuriating.

How to password protect your Xbox LIVE profile

Xbox LIVE password overview

It is possible to download your Xbox LIVE profile to several different consoles. You may need to do this if you have more than one Xbox 360 console, or you want to play games at a friend's house. In such a situation, you may want to password protect your Xbox LIVE account so that no one else can sign in using your profile.

Set the console to remember your password

Once you have downloaded your Xbox LIVE profile to a console, you will be asked if you want the console to remember your password. The Remember Password option is usually off by default. This means that you will be asked for your Microsoft account password every time you sign into Xbox LIVE.

If you don't want to be asked for your Microsoft account password every time you sign into Xbox LIVE, select the Remember Password option.

Change the password protection on your profile

You are required to set the Remember Password option after you download your Xbox LIVE profile. However, you can change the password protection on your Xbox LIVE profile any time.

If you don't need a password to sign in:

Sign into your Xbox LIVE profile. After you have entered your Microsoft account password, select the Remember Password option.

If you choose the Remember Password option, you will not be asked for your Microsoft account password the next time you sign into your Xbox LIVE profile.

If you need a password to sign in:

You can restrict access to your Xbox LIVE profile on any console using your Microsoft account password.

Steps to follow

1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2) Under Settings, select Account and then Account Security

3) Choose the option for Password at Sign In.

4) Select Require Password Here

You will be asked for your Microsoft account password the next time you sign into your Xbox LIVE profile.

How to password protect your Xbox LIVE profile remotely

If you downloaded your Xbox LIVE profile to another console and it is not password protected, or someone has compromised your password, you can change the password from a remote location so that no one else can access your profile.

Change your Microsoft account

1) Sign into accounts.live.com using your Microsoft account.

2) Go to Account Information and, next to Password, click Change.

You can also use your console to change your Microsoft account password.

Note: If the Xbox LIVE profile you downloaded does not require a password to sign in (You selected the Remember Password option), you will not be able to restrict someone from signing into your Xbox profile even if you change your Microsoft account password.

You can remove your Microsoft account password so that other people cannot access your Xbox profile on other consoles. This will ensure that a password is required before signing into your Xbox profile.

Remotely set a profile password from a computer:

1) Sign into your Xbox LIVE account.

2) Under Settings, select Account, and then Account Security

3) Choose the option for Password at Sign In.

4) Select On All Other Consoles.

Once you have done this, a password will be required to sign into your Xbox LIVE profile on all other consoles.

 

Credentials error

I don't know if am allowed to post help threads as I see no specific sections but I thought I needed to get help from somewhere.

I'm getting an error when trying to download my old account. It still has xbox gold ( and gold pp901m on mw3 and i guesss ) and i need to get the account back so i can play on it again.

This is what the error says . ( for some reason you can't dl profiles offline but you used to be able to )

ERROR: Sorry, there's a problem with the credentials that you are using to sign in.

Visit https:// account.live .com to fix the problem.

I have gone to account.live and tried to sign in with my old account. but it says password is wrong ( even though the DL profiles says it's correct ) I have also gone to Can't access your account but that is no help niether is Google or Youtube.

Please help me. Thanks.

 

Update: I left it a while and tried again and noticed the last character of my password wasn't entering on screen. Forgot there was a maximum password length on 360 -.-

Problem fixed, Xbox account slightly less secure though. Leaving the post up in case anyone else has the same problem in future, since the error messages were not at all helpful. If Xbox aren't going to lift this restriction then a warning when you set the
password or when you try to enter that 17th character on a 360 would be much more helpful than a vague "Sorry, there's a problem with the credentials that you're using to sign in" message.

 

Hi there, do you know if you have two-step verification enabled? If you have enabled two-step verification and not set up an app password for it you can get these sign-in errors that you're using the wrong password.

I know you've said you have no secondary verification enabled, but I'm not sure if you're referring to two-step verification, I would suggest following the instructions at the following link just to make sure two-step is disabled or create a new app password:

I have lost 3 hours doing that exact same step as you. I think it is the lenght of my password that is giving me problem. Thank you so much for your post.

 

Thank you so much like I was in a chat with xbox support for an hour before my internet gave out and I was disconnected. And in case anyone is interested the character limit on passwords for Xbox 360 is 16.
