    I've had this problem for the past couple weeks (our xbox use is pretty minimal, maybe gets turned on once or twice every month or two). There is an update, but when I go to update, it almost immediately pops up with "Update Failed. Can't download the
    update." The error code is 42FE-0000-0080-0200-8015-1911. I followed the instructions for this error message but it still persists (plenty of disk space, network test doesn't fail). When I do a network connection test, the test for network and internet
    is pretty fast but the test from internet to xbox live is very slow... and I never see the result of that test because it gives me a popup to install the latest update and then I'm back to square one. I assume the xbox live connection is working, however,
    because I see that I am briefly signed in after I turn it on, but before it gives me the "update required" message. Also, offline mode seems to function correctly. The startup process takes a long time though, about 2 minutes before I get the "update required"
    popup.

    What can I try next?

    "xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-C810-1004" might indicate a dashboard update issue with your Xbox 360. The system update may have failed to download or install.

    You can try manually installing the dashboard update with a USB flash drive.

    The update could not be downloaded from Xbox LIVE. Try the following:

    1. Try installing the update again.
    2. If you're having problems connecting or staying connected to Xbox LIVE, see Xbox LIVE connection problems.
    Note You can also update your console software by copying the update to a USB flash drive or CD. See Troubleshoot console software update problems.

    Well to update the thread:

    I was able to apply the update by downloading it onto a USB drive and plugging it in to the xbox. The connection & long pause issue did not go away. Running a network test, it usually succeeds after about 2 minutes of connecting from the internet to xbox
    live, but sometimes it fails. Also running network statistics shows a 42ms latency, a 96% packet loss, and .07 / .01 upload and download speeds. So I apparently have some connectivity issues with xbox live. The xbox is plugged into a hub which feeds a computer
    and smart TV where we stream netflix and local movies & music with no issues, and the computer speed test boasts nearly 85Mbps download speed and 75Mbps upload speed (verizon fios). So, I'm not sure what the xbox's problem is. I switched out the network
    cable from the xbox to the hub and used a different hub port with no luck. My next test is to plug directly into the xbox instead of the hub and restart the modem. Somehow, with everything else working properly, I don't think this will help, but it won't
    hurt to try it.

    BTW it used to work fine, I can't remember the last time we tried it though, it has been a few months, beginning of summer maybe. Nothing on the network, configuration wise, has changed in that time.

    Can you post up the make and model of this Hub of yours.

    I'm not sure if you choose to phrase this device as a Hub, when it technically may not be a Hub. Hub's are no longer to be used in an Ethernet envirionment. These devices got replaced by swithes over 10 years ago, and for numerous of reasons.

    Can you also post up the make and model of your router and your modem as well (if this is not a single device).

    I'm not sure if you choose to phrase this device as a Hub, when it technically may not be a Hub. Hub's are no longer to be used in an Ethernet envirionment. These devices got replaced by swithes over 10 years ago, and for numerous of reasons.

    Looking at your error code and the link given by Tgeekster, you problem is narrowed down to the following:

    The update could not be downloaded from Xbox LIVE due to error code in the following format xxxx-xxxx-xx8x-xxxx-8015-xxxx

    Since you can connect to the internet but can't get the update from Xbox Live online, you need to download the update to the USB drive and manually update your xbox. See this

    support.xbox.com/.../system-update-help
    and in particular Solution #5
    support.xbox.com/.../system-update-help
    but make sure you meet all the steps required before getting to Solution #5. Hope this helps
