can't refine ore

I have never had this happen to me before. If I were you I would report this to Zenimax. I do not know, since you posted this two months ago, if this issue has been resolved. I hope it has, although with Zenimax we never know. They fix one thing and two
more are broken.

I really want to be able to make arrows! cut wood......check, harvest ore....check, turn ore to ignot....check, why can't I make arrow heads why can't wood be made into shafts for arrows!?!?! arg

Just dropping in here, but get the Transmutation spell from a cave you have to raid for mercenary work. I can't specifically remember the name of it off of the top of my head, but ask around for work in Whiterun and you'll run into it. The spell turns iron
ore into silver ore and silver ore into gold ore. Smelt 'em down, make some jewelery and sell it off!

Yeah, that'll work for low level Smithing, but once you get up into the mid-50s you're gonna have to start looking for rarer and rarer ores to boost your skill.

Good places to find ebony ore.

Gloombound Mine which is southeast of Windhelm,and there's another mind which has a few ebony ore veins/.

Redbelly Mine-Which is north of Riften,pretty close to Shor's Stone.
