Can't redeem prepaid card on 360

So my xbox live membership ends in September. Since I plan to play a ton of Destiny when that comes out I decided to go buy a xboxlive 12 month gold prepaid card. When I go to redeem my code on my xbox360, I get the following message:

"XboxLive: This payment option cant be used for this purchase. Please select a different payment option or add a new one."

Anyone else ever have a similar issue? The garbage part is that those cards are nonrefundable.

Here's what I tired to do to fix this problem on my own:

-Turn my xbox360 off and on

-Clear my system cache on my xbox360

-Check to see if I had any outstanding balances(I don't)

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I recently removed my credit card as a payment option from my account. This was because I was surprised to see that my xboxlive membership was set by default to auto-renew. That's a very sleazy business
practice Microsoft. Last thing I want as a customer is for unexpected charges to appear on my credit card.

 

Have you tried redeeming the code through the website too?

 

Also, FYI about auto-renewal, the system does tell you that it will be turned on when you purchase gold from Xbox. They don't hide it.

 

I did try through the website and received an error code which I posted in the error code forums. Really? I don't remember ever reading anywhere about auto renewal. I never knew it was active until I tired redeeming my card on this website and checked my
billing information. Thanks for the info though.

 

Just checking back on this post. Anyone know how long it usually takes Microsoft support to reply? I was looking at some other posts on these forums and it looks like most of the users had their problems answered by other users?
