Cant recover gamertag becuz of new 2 factor authentication I never signed up for

My xbox one was stolen a few months ago and I just bought a new one today and when trying to recover my old gamertag I entered in my @live.com email address and the correct password and then it said it needed to send a code to a number before I could finish
signing in . I've had this same account for well over 10 years and not once has it ever asked me this. Now the 2 numbers at the end of the phone number it shows make me fairly certain I know what number they're trying to send the code to but the problem is
it hasnt been my number in years. I tried calling tech support and told them my unique situation thinking they could help since my xbox was stolen but they basically told me tough luck. Ive also tried the account recovery option on this site but again ita
asking me for the Xbox serial number to my stolen xbox and one of the only other options it has given me to verify my identity is to provide a credit/debit used to make purchases but I've almost always used prepaid walmart cards for purchases. Is there any
other options to recovering the account. Ive had this account well over 10 years and have spent hundreds if not thousands on games and other media and had a gamerscore of about 85,000. I used to love being an achievement hunter but there's no way I can start
over. If I cant recover this account I'll probably return the Xbox I just bought and get a PlayStation which I said I'd never so but if this is the kind of support I can expect from xbox on something so important then I cant in good conscience continue to
support them.

Salutations! If you have 2 Factor Authentication enabled, there'd be another step in the process, such as using an authenticator app on a phone, ect. I have done the exact same thing, it worked flawless for me. I could recommend disabling 2 Factor Authentication, signing into Twitch on your Xbox, and re-enabling it again.

Do you have 2-factor authentication enabled on your Roblox account? If so then disable it, then sign in and once you're signed in, reenable it.

You could pay for a name change or contact support. Since the new gamertag may not be appropriate, they should offer you the option to change for free. But I dont work for Microsoft so I can't speak for them.

Also Microsoft offer 2-step authentication for Xbox Live Accounts. I would turn that on after changing your gamertag.

i cant login to the xbox acc because i lost my phone and i cant get it back and i linked it to the acc

I assume you mean you have 2 step factor authentication enabled?

If so you can use one of the several backup codes it gave you and told you to save when you first enabled 2 factor authentication. You did save those right?...... Right?

Hi,

I pay £28.99 a month for my Xbox on a 2 year plan and it comes with Ultimate Pass.

I'm unable to sign in because I my son kept putting the password in wrong and he has locked all of my accounts.

I can't sign in because I didn't have authenticator set up and I no longer have the phone number registered. Microsoft will not help and keep asking me to fill in the recover account form which is impossible to do and they will not recover my account.

I cant afford to sign up to ultimate pass again on a new account and it is already included in the £28.99 that I already pay.

How can this be sorted?

When you first setup 2 factor authentication it would have provided you with several backup codes (which are meant for this exact sort of situation) and it would have told you to save them somewhere safe.

Did you save those codes like it told you to? If you did then you can enter one of them whenever it asks for the code being sent to you. If you did not save those codes like it told you to then unfortunately the account would be unrecoverable.

Those backup codes are your last resort for recovering an account in this sort of situation.
