  2. Hey BigWood1989 and Arcus Stone!

Sorry to hear about the disc errors. Just to make sure that we haven't missed any troubleshooting steps, I recommend trying the steps that Maxen has suggested above along with a few other steps.

Please give the following steps a try:

    • Make sure your console is placed horizontally on a flat, stable surface.
    • Press and hold the power button on your console for 10 seconds.
    • Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord.
    • Wait 5 minutes and then plug in your console.
    • Power on your console and try to play a disc to see if the error continues to occur.
If you have tried the suggested steps and you are still experiencing the error, please let us know.

Alright, figured this out this morning with some random tip from the inter-web. I was headed out to buy a stand alone player and decided I needed to try one more time before spending cash because Xbox One can't play some discs -- seemingly at random. My
problems started with new Blu-rays, which I prefer over downloaded content, and the X1's failure to read the disc. I also had trouble getting game updates to work if they required the original disc -- which was a new problem. Some old Blu-rays and most DVDs
play fine. It was maddening but this morning I managed to get it to play every single Blu-ray I tried and updated the few games I actually have discs for - no problem. Here's my "fix", such as it is:

    (1) Take the machine out-back and crush it with a cinder block, buy new machine (kidding);

    (2) Actual answer: When you insert a disc that wasn't/isn't working, hold it firmly after the drive tries to grab it and pull it in, wait about a solid 2 count, then release the disc. The drive will seem to suck it in faster than normal, with a satisfying
woosh and snap. The drive will spin up in that familiar, "hey, it's working" way, and X1 will display the Blu-Ray Icon or start the movie depending on your settings.

You can, if you are gentle and listen closely hear and feel the moment when you should release the disc. I put it in less than half way, listen for the tone of the spin to change ever-so-slightly, and for the feel of the wheel to almost speed up against
my fingertips. At that moment, I release the disc. If I've done it right, the disc will snap in quickly, pop into place, and simply -- beautifully -- play.

Don't worry, there seems to be a high tolerance for the release time. Too soon and the disc will go in slowly, and fail to read. I have never waited too long though -- as you can feel the disc suddenly insist on going in. If you don't release it, it will
stop trying -- just let it go when it's ready and enjoy the sights and sounds of things blowing up before your eyes, no cinder block required.

I truly hope this works for everyone that finds themselves on this thread -- frustrated and fed-up as I was not 30 minutes ago. Good luck!!!!

    Michael

p.s. I can't help but wonder if it's some subtle weight or disc thickness issue. (Perhaps new Blu-rays are lighter and thinner -- or Sony neglected to tell Microsoft of a spec change) Almost as though the machine can't tell it got a disc after it sucked
one in. Microsoft should tone down (up?) the disc sensor or something and just let the rest of the hardware work it out. There's just something disheartening about being told to insert a disc into a machine you know full well has one; because you just put
    it into the damn thing!

Can't read this disc errors... (0x80820002)

Been having this problems with multiple games for awhile now. It started sporadically but got to the point where it would take 45 minutes to even get a game to register. Just tried DracosMW's suggestion and every game worked. Some took a few tries, but
if you listen you can actually hear when the disc is being read correctly.

  5. Just got a X1 Day 1 second hand, has been looked after really well and is in mint condition.

Getting the same 0x80820002 error code when trying COD and Fifa 2014.

Tried a hard reset with power cable out and holding power button down. No joy didn't work at all...

However, DracosMW instructions are spot on. Can get the disks to work everytime using this method.

Seems to be some sort of physical hardware issue with the way the unit is pulling the disks in. On the other hand I don't want to keep doing this to get my games to work.

Can support tell us if we are entitled to a unit exchange?

Genius! I was ready to throw the thing out the window, but Dracos' tip worked first time. My issues have been almost exclusively with with newer blu-ray disks. If you look at a newer blu-ray, they are significantly thinner (can even kinda see through
them). Must be something MS didn't account for.

Got my X1 on day one. I have run into this issue many times. I actually already replaced one system.

I spent half an hour trying various methods to get the disc to read. Draco's advice was the only one to work.

Wow; DracosMW... very impressed you figured this out. Agree, almost certainly a weight or thickness sensitivity issue. Microsoft should be embarrassed and fix this.

so to fix the issue on discs that have the issue, just hold the disc for 2-3 seconds as the xbox tries to pull it in. Then let it go and it will suck it in fast and play it like it should have if you had put it in normally. Clearly a sensitivity issue on
    the drive (thickness or weight.)

  11. None of these steps have worked for any of my xbox one games. A dvd (not blueray) works perfecting fine every time. I just bought this console only a month ago and this has happened already!

The disc's all are being inserted correctly and no loud noises are being made, just after every insert the "check your disc" message appears.

Any other insight or assistance that you guys can give me?

I have powered down the console and unplugged leads, made sure the surface it rests on is hard and flat, signed in and out of my account, the only step i have not yet tried is to restore to default settings.

Can't read this disc errors... (0x80820002)

Also having the same problem. The holding the disk did not work. Neither did power cycle or clearing persistent memory. Will play CD's and DVD's, but not game discs. SO FRUSTRATING!!! Just spent over $700 today on everything and it will not play a **** game?
Also, tried downloading a game from the market, 4 hours later it is only at 22%. Does MS think this is acceptable? This is honestly such a let down. One of the worst experiences with technology I have ever had. I loved my xbox 360, never even had the rings
of death, but cant play a brand new "next generation state of the art" system out of the box on the first day? Is this a widespread issue???

    Anyone with advice please help!!

  14. I'm losing my hair over this problem. Bought an Xbox One yesterday along with Titanfall and wasn't able to get it to work at all, even tried the "hold the disc for a second" trick. Took the console back today, got a new Xbox and brand new copy of Titanfall
and still no luck. Same error code. TWO different consoles and TWO different copies of the same game. This has to be some sort of prank. Give me a break, Microsoft. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  15. I am having similar problems. Mine were compounded......

    1. Bought xbox1 with Ryse and Wolfenstien. Upon setting it all up. The drive would suck in the disc but not register any kind of acceptance or error that the disc was there or not there (Insert disc tile on screen never changed, nor did any errors occur,
be it the 2 games I tried, or any of the many dvd's/blurays I already own. Returned to store for replacement.

    2. With xbox1 attempt #2. The drive worked for most of the evening, I attempted to eject Ryse, and it wouldn't eject, so I found the article to show where the hole is for manual eject via paperclip method. However the drive was dead, would no longer even
suck in discs...... Returned to store for replacement.

    3. With xbox1 attempt #3. Blurays and dvd's work fine, but game discs are getting the 0x80820002 error. After speaking with MS support. They were getting slammed with calls for this issue. They are under the thinking it has something to do with yesterday's
august patch......(I was hoping they would take in the unit for repair, as I wasn't about to go back to the same store for replacement no.4...assuming they have a bad batch of them at that store)........So hopefully it is software related, and an emergency
patch will resolve. I will be patient for a little while..........hopefully I will not have to return for refund and give up on this device..........
