Can't read a 4K Star Wars Blu-ray Disc on Xbox One X

Hi,

Hope I've posted in the correct forum.

Basically I purchased my first 4K UHD film, only to find that my Xbox One X can't read it. I put the disc in, it tries to read said disc and just gives up. No error message and doesn't automatically launch the Blu-ray App.

When I tried to play the disc using the App, it returns a message saying it is having problems reading the disc - asking to make sure the disk is a DVD or Blu-ray.

To be honest, the sound coming from the drive doesn't seem right when reading the disc. Of course, game discs and standard Blu-ray discs read fine without issue. I don't have any other UHD discs to try.

What's the issue here? Is it the disc or the drive? Do many UHD discs not play on the One X and the One S?

X blu-ray compatibility

ok guys,

Technical question, I’m looking online to buy blue ray movies. Mainly Star Wars complete saga & planet earth 4K. In the description area it’s states that these Blue Ray movies won’t play on console. Is there a specific blue ray movies I need to buy or
is it because the seller is selling pirate illegal copies? This is for my Xbox One X?

4K Passthrough?

I saw it has HDMI 2.0B thingy on this site.

If say you connect an Xbox One X to your 4K HDTV, you should still be able to:

1. Download the YouTube and Netflix apps, onto your Xbox One X, and still be able to watch in 4k 60fps?

2. Use Xbox One X 4k Blu-ray player to watch 4k Blu-ray disc movies in 4k 60fps?

3. Play games on Xbox One X, in 4k 60fps?

.... right?

Hi

There have been reports of this on the
Xbox Insider forums and I guess it could be affecting consoles that are not in the insider program.

I have also experienced issues with getting my 4K UHD copy of The Last Jedi to work and found that if I carried out a full restart on the console (I left the disc in the console) that I was then able to play the film afterwards.

Thanks gds1972. Good to know it's not just me then. Still got the normal HD Blu-ray if it still doesn't work.

I will check the post and try what you suggested. No wonder the App in the store only has two stars.

Hi Obsessive Power, thanks for reaching out and we're sorry to hear about the understandably frustrating experience with the playback of your UH Blu-Ray. Just to clarify, this is indeed happening with a copy of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, correct?

We ask because this is an issue we have forwarded to the proper teams and is actively being investigated. Additionally, if you're experiencing any specific error code in the message(s) pertaining to this trouble playing that disc, can you please relay that
information to us? Also, are you enrolled in the Insider Preview program?

Yes, the UHD disc is Star Wars the Last Jedi. The disc does not automatically launch the Blu-ray App, When I launch the App, I get an error along the lines of:

'We are having trouble reading this. Make sure it is Blu-ray or DVD. If it is a game, launch it from your Games and Apps instead. (0x91d70000)'

I am in the Insider program, but my current console is not registered to receive preview updates - The system serial numbers showing in the settings screen do not match my console's serial number.

Update:

gds1972's advice seems to have done the trick with playing the disc. I left the disc in the drive, went to settings and did a system restart. During the restart, the console reads the disc - with the same sound that it normally makes reading a disc in
the drive. I launched the App straight after boot up, and the film started to play, hurrah!

I will play it later and see how it goes.

Managed to play the disc, which played fine - except for one monetary pause. However, It took about two reboots before the disc would play.

Hi,

Sounds like the laser in your console's Blu-ray drive has a hardware issue.

To test if your Xbox One X has issues reading discs, try playing a DVD movie disc. If can't read DVD movie discs either then your console has a hardware fault.

Note: It must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

There are two lasers in the Blu-ray drive, one for reading Blu-ray discs and one for DVD discs. Xbox One games use Blu-ray and the 360 console used a DVD drive.

that's a pretty good question right there. I own 3(?) 4k uhd movies right now and I can say personally that the visual quality is superior to blu ray buy itself and the difference between it and the older dvd standard is glaringly obvious when you pop the
disc in. I refuse to buy the blu ray star wars movie until the 4k disc for that movie comes out.
