Can't purchase ANYTHING. Wasted money on a gift card and can't use it.

We bought our boys Xbox gift cards that totaled $40. I went in and redeemed them and it does show the correct amount on the console. The problem we are having is that when you go to purchase a game, we get a message that says try again tomorrow you've
reached your limit for the day. This happens when we are trying to download one game and no other games have been downloaded that day. My boys have even tried to download free games and the same message appears.

Xbox live billing is stupid

I would just like to point out how stupid the Xbox live gold billing system is. I just went out and bought a $25 gift card for XBOX LIVE and I can't use it to purchase XBOX LIVE SURVICE!!! I can't use the money I just put on my account to by survice for
my account? Then what is the point of even having xbox gift cards in the first place if you can't even use the for everything Xbox related.

i bought a 12 month gold Xbox gift card for my son for his 10th birthday and I can't get it to work. Really pissed that I wasted $59.99 for nothing. I would like either the card activated or my money back. Please help

 

Hi WSJS! It sounds as though your sons' Xbox Live accounts have parental controls set up on them - were their gamertags created under your account? I've not specifically heard of this "you've reached your limit for the day" item, but that sounds more like
it would be related to gaming time, rather than Downloads. There is a way to set the amount of time per day a child account can play, and you also have the option of limiting child accounts for purchasing, with the settings "Anything," "Only Free," and "Nothing."

I would recommend going to account.live.com, logging in with your personal gamertag, and then checking under the Privacy and Security sections to see if their gamertags have these types of restrictions on them. If so, you can easily change them! More information

The daily limit issue has been a recent problem for many gamers. One solution that has been found for this is to update billing information. This sounds odd since you used gift cards to put the money on your account. However, it may be worth attempting to
update your information if there is a debit/credit card attached. And if you don't, then you could try adding a card and making the purchase (you should have the option to use the MS credit still) to see if that works.

Hopefully one of these ways will work for you.

 

If none of those work, I would contact Billing at
support.xbox.com/contact-us because your account may be locked for another reason.

 

same problem here. been on xbox (not) "support" chat for > 1 hour. zero progress.

nothing has worked.

 

Now I've learned the nasty truth about our problem.

You can only purchase certain content with M$ points. My son bought a DLC code at GameStop for a Destiny DLC.

After 2 hours in MicroSucks chat i've learned two things:

1) The DLC code translated into MicroSoft "points" which can only be used for certain content

2) MS customer service sucks and they are perfectly happy ripping off 13 year old kids

There isn't actually Microsoft Points anymore. They changed their system to convert everything over to your local currency.

 

Soccer is correct, any MS points cards that still exist automatically convert into a dollar value balance on your MS account. Also, there is no limitation as to what type of content can be purchased with your MS account - account balance, PayPal, or credit
card, they all function as currency.

 

I would suggest using a credit/debit card next time as it is faster and more reliable. If you are paranoid of either Microsoft losing your information or giving it out just stop thinking and just do it. You can use parental controls to prevent them from
buying anything without your permission and Microsoft is really good about information security.
