Can't play with particular friend

Hey guys,

I've been on xbox live for 6 years now and have had only minor issues with connecting and playing with friends on 360 and One. A friend of mine that I used to play on xbox 360 with has just upgraded to an xbox one and for some strange reason we cannot connect
to each other. We have both power cycled our modems and consoles, both have open nat, can both play with everyone else on our friends lists but cannot connect to each other. We have tried this multiple times over the past month and tried games such as Minecraft
and Trivial Pursuit. Destiny we have been able to connect to but I assume this is due to it being on servers? but even then it is not as smooth an experience as with other friends.

I'm at a loss as to why we can't connect to each other. We live about 5 minutes from each other and both have Telstra as our ISP. Could this be part of the issue?

If you get invites from some players but not all that could be a NAT type issue.

Hey there, wildliquid! You've actually hit the nail on the head as to why you're running into issues. You and your friend are likely running off of the same node in your area, which can cause some NAT issues that aren't seen on your end.

The only fix I've seen for this is one of you (doesn't have to be both of you) should ask Telstra for a static IP. Some ISPs do this for a small one time or monthly fee. I suggest you guys reach out and see if you can do that.

And to be sure, does Mike have his ports open for LIVE too? Also, it wouldn't hurt to have your friend's call their ISP for more info on the issue.

That's funny cause I used to play Nightfire all the time against the bots with my friends back on Gamecube. I never played it online though. I really like how in COD4 you can actually snipe on particular maps by just staying in one place. You can't do that
in MW3.

Playing the disc on another console will help you figure out whether the problem is with the individual disc or the console's disc drive. Try the disc on a friend's console, or at a retail location that can test a disc.

If none of the previous solutions fixed the problem and you still can't play a particular disc
contact the retailer about their disc replacement policy.
