Can't Play With Friends on Minecraft Bedrock

My friend and I have experiencing trouble on Bedrock Edition. We used to be able to play together with no issues but one day he wasn't able to join my world. The game says, "Unable to Connect to World." This started well over a year and since then we haven't
been able to join each others world. It is only me experiencing trouble because my friend is able to play with other friends. We have tried all the solutions that have been suggested but none of them have worked. It would be nice if the game gave an error
code so we know what is wrong and what to fix.

Yes actually, there is a quick way to tell what version you have installed.

The bedrock edition of Minecraft is only called "Minecraft"

Whereas the other version is "Minecraft xbox one edition"

I believe it is the bedrock edition you require to play with friends on different devices.

If on Pc you have Minecraft Java you can't do cross-platform games with PlayStation, as this is only a function of Minecraft Bedrock, but you don't need to purchase a game for a platform you don't own, if your friends it's trying to invite you he needs to log into a Microsoft account in his game as well as you in your Minecraft Bedrock and add each others Microsoft accounts as friends
