Can't Play Physical Games or DVD's Offline

I turned on my xbox one a couple of minutes ago and it said I wasn't connected to xbox live. No big deal, xbox live is down I'll play a disc based game offline. Every game I tried launched but sat for a few minutes before saying please try again for
some reason it took too long. I tried a dvd and same result. I just watched a dvd and played games offline back when xbox live was down during the release of gears of war 5 and the free weekend of some other game. Couldn't figure out the problem so I used
the trusty hard reset and let the console set for awhile. So I decided to check the xbox live status on my ipad. Turns out xbox wasn't offline it was me the entire time. My cat must have been playing behind the tv and unplugged something. My xbox one has
always been set to my home xbox I just checked it again. Not sure why I couldn't play offline today but I could other times.

My console still reads discs it just wouldn't let me use them offline last night. And everything else you recommend I always do even holding the disc. Never heard about the holding the disc technique being able to scratch a disc. Have to remember that
the next time I suggest it to someone else. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry to hear it. Please try going to Settings>Disc & Blu Ray and make sure that Enable BD Live is not checked. The click on Persistent Storage and clear it. Finally power cycle the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts
down. If this does not work then the console may need to be repaired.

If the console is no longer reading discs then it may need to be sent in for a repair. You can set up a repair of the console via this link

In the meantime you could try holding the disc for a second after the console grabs it. This could force the console to read the disc. Please note though that this is not a recommended workaround as it may scratch your disc and doesn't solve the existing
issue.

They have confirmed, but vaguely the One will work offline at some extent. You can't use most features or play online of course. You will be able play DVDs/Blu-ray and play single player games at some extent depending on the game.

Xbox One is really made to be online. It'll be fine to play offline, but you won't get many apps and can't play DVDs/Blu Rays until you download that app.
