Can't play original Xbox games on my Xbox 360 slim, despite installing an official ...

The subject should say it all. When I try to put games (that have been listed by Xbox as compatible) I get a message that says something like this disc cannot be read, try downloading it again. I've jumped through all of the hoops with Xbox support. So
in short, I have an Xbox 360 slim, with a separately purchased official 250gb hard drive installed that will not play original Xbox games. Please help

I just learned that I need a 250GB HDD hard drive for my Xbox 360 slim to play original Xbox games. But do I need an official Microsoft one or can it be any 250GB hard drive?

For Original Xbox games to be playable on an Xbox 360, it needs to be an official Microsoft Hard Drive.

However, there is no official 120GB hard drive for the Slim, only 250GB and 320GB.

There is a 120GB for the original-style Xbox 360 and the later Elite, but not Slim.

If you are using a Slim, the hard drive itself will be the problem and you will need an official one.

 

Hey there, the only thing I can think of is does the console have the compatibility update to be able to play the original games?

just to be sure, you are 100% sure it is an official xbox 360 hard drive? Did Support check that?

 

@WPAK I did not, however when I go into storage the official Microsoft logo is shown on the right. Is there anything else I can do to verify it?

 

And yes, the software is fully updated.

 

Was the hard drive purchased brand new or was it purchased used/from a third party company like ebay? If it was purchased used/from a third party, it's highly likely to be a knock off no matter how official it looks. So it may not have the emulation software
required to play original Xbox games.
