Can't play media from USB device???

Discus and support Can't play media from USB device??? in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; Don't seem to be able to play media from a USB device like I used to on the xbox360.     Can't play media from USB device???


    Don't seem to be able to play media from a USB device like I used to on the xbox360. What a joke, wouldn't have brought the xbox1 at all if I knew this to start with. Previously used 360 as media player also. If this statement is incorrect, can someone
    please enlighten me. THanks

    xbox one a step backwards

    all my media is stored on a nas. the xbox 360 used to be able to play all my media from my nas with system media player, but this wonderful leap backwards of a system can't even play videos from a usb key. bring back system media player app or let XBMC develop
    an app for your system. SORT OUT YOU LIFE MICROSOFT.

    can any one put MSE on a xbox 360 s

    It can be played as an extended media device playable via USB. Can't transfer the files from it though.

    You cannot play media from a USB device. However you can use upload content to OneDrive to upload content to and view it that way. Feel free to visit

    It currently just plays media from USB devices. More streaming support will be added as the updates progress.

    Taken from the preview forums:

    • Media Player – A new app will be available soon that enables you to play media files from either an attached USB device or from a network connected home media server that supports DLNA protocols. The preview version of the Media Player
      app will initially only support USB devices, with DLNA support coming soon. Xbox One will support more formats than Xbox 360, including support for dozens of new file formats like mpeg 2 TS,
      animated gifs and mkv which will be added by the end of the year. See below for additional file formats.

    How to upload a clip from OneDrive back to Xbox

    Unfortunately it's not possible to upload it directly back to the console, however you can save it to a USB stick and then view the clip using the Xbox's media browser, (the Xbox can play most audio, video, and pictures in compatible formats from a USB stick).

    Please note that the Xbox may ask if you want to format the device; if this happens select "no/decline" as this is an automated process to set devices that are 256gb or larger as mass-storage media for Xbox games.

    Please also note that storage devices can only store games OR media content, and not both.

    It's also possible to view clips uploaded to OneDrive, YouTube, and Twitch on Xbox One using the relevant apps.
