    Can't play local splitscreen without a valid membership?


    My friend and I are trying to play my new xbox with some local multiplayer. When I sign into my account he can't join as guest, and it says "Can't sign into xbox live need valid membership" and we're kicked out of the game.. are you for real? Tried to
    put the console offline, tried the home console thing but its already set as home console. Very frustrating and incredibly stupid. We tried playing perfect dark on rare replay.

    No, they do not have an account
    That is the issue, you need to create a xbox account for the second player, even being a splitscreen is required a second account.

    Very strange if you have an Xbox Live subscription the guest is able to play without problems. Are you sure you have a subscription?

    with your account being signed on try creating a new live account for your friend and him signing into that to join the game for the local multiplayer. Does the game support local offline split screen multiplayer? as some games only allow multiplayer on
    xbox live so gold would be needed for that.
