Can't play games with gold you own when silver?

Oh, and I suspect that during or soon after this yrs E3, that...

1, Current gens free rentals with Gold will be changed to. Free (no more rentals with gold) games like it should have been from the start.

Or...

2, They drop paid subscription services (Gold membership) alltogether. You don't need an opperator to connect you to EA/UBI Game lobbies in order to play MP Online.

 

If you think that Live services is just an "operator" that just connects you, you are very misinformed.

 

@ElectroFlying both of those predictions you made are far-fetched and silly in my opinion.

1. You don't "rent" the game, nor do you have the right to own it. It's simply a perk/incentive for subscribing to Microsoft's service. The whole point of games with gold is just a way to convince people to keep paying the monthly/yearly fee for Gold. Same
with Playstation's PS Plus system. I'm sure this system Sony and Microsoft are using will stay for a long, long time.

2. It actually costs money to maintain and operate multiplayer servers, especially on the size and scale that Xbox is doing, (worldwide). They have to make back that expense somewhere, which is why they charge us for online multiplayer.

 

Live servers (Opperator metaphore)

Other than redirect you when you fire up an App or Game. What else? Cloud saves maybe?

Perk? No, more like a catch 22.

Wasn't talking about MP game servers, which is free 'perk' for purchasing say. Halo 5 and playing MP Online. Has nothing to do with MS main server which YOU pay simply to connect you to 343i's Halo 5 MP Server.

To help you understand: When you fire up the xbox and sign in. You arent connected to a free to use EA/343i etc game server, but rather MS switchbord.... Your console is programmed to connect to non other. MS server then checks whether you are Gold or Silver,
banned etc and if Silver, disallows your games to connect to Online MP servers.... Which are more often than not Free just so long as you have the game that server is programmed to host.

It is in that sence that I personally think MS will change its tune an end Gold requirments alltogether, as more gamers will educate themselves, and demand change.

They got away with servers are expensive etc back in 2002 when most didnt understand tech, but now its a different story as Grandma's generation has mostely took a dirt nap.

I also think this. You dont own that game but rather a licence to play it. Will also get the boot.

Word of mouth rumor that Microsoft may have free XBOX live announced at E3. Just a rumor so who knows. Someone else posted it in the forums here. So maybe the policy changes? But if you want more free games with gold then you need to buy gold. But maybe
games with gold games wont be rentals after LIVE goes free? Wait and see I guess.
