Can't play games with gold you own when silver?

Your not specifically paying for the game though, you're paying for the Xbox Live Gold service as a whole. When you stop paying for the service, you lose the perks for being a subscriber.

You don't pay gold just to get the free games every month, you pay for the service it offers and the games with gold are just a perk/incentive to try and convince you to continue paying.

 

How is it greed? If you don't pay for a gold membership then you don't get the perks that go with it.

As Pure said,you pay for gold for the xbox live service,the games are a bonus.

XBL is nothing more than a switchbord.

You have to pay MS for switching you over to say a Ubi server for game X, which is free on Steam. MS knew people were waking up to it, and began offering free game to Gold subscribers as a reward for not droping XBLG entirely, while at the same time allowing
Silvers to run Netflix and other apps w/o cost. (Remember when you had to be Gold in order to watch Netfix etc?)

Then along came the Xbox One and a whole new set of rules, (DRM) where amoung other things, GwG policies on current gen (Xbox One, NOT Xbox 360) became RwG (Rentals with Gold)

Badger, post a lazy where you can get 12 month XBLG card thats usable in the US for less than 40 bucks.

For the past month i have been in search of a deal like that and had to settle for a 90 day card at full price.

 

There aren't any great deals on Live at the moment. The cheapest I've found is about $45.99 at cdkeys.com for a 12 month.

 

Well now I see why xbox box does this. Because its like taking candy from a baby.

 

cdkeys.com. I might of got the £ to $ conversion slightly wrong but £45 is still cheap & they often have sales were 12 months gold is cheaper.

I've been a gold member since 2003,long before gwg was even a thing,hardly taking candy from a baby is it?

There are loads of good deals on a years gold wherever you live if you shop around but most people can't be bothered.

I've paid £40 once for a years sub,when I first signed up to live & that was for the old xbox live starter kit,which came with a headset as well.

 

A business wants to make money? No way!

Why would they give gold subscribers games to keep playing after they no longer use/pay for gold.

Take this month for example. They are giving away Sunset Overdrive, for free, to all gold subscribers. Why would they just let some cheapskate ( not you OP but in general) pay 6.99 for a month of live and then get great games and then never pay for it again
only to play those games for ever and ever.

Allowing people to keep playing those games while they have an active subscription is a good way to keep customers. It's a brilliant business move. They need people to pay for live to turn a profit and this helps them do it.

Hell, if you were paying 6.99 a month just for the free games, you'd be doing very well since you get 4 every month.

 

Yes, as far as the Xbox One goes, if you download a Games with Gold game and your subscription runs out, you lose access to those games until you renew your subscription.

I'm not sure about the Xbox 360, but that's the way it works on the XB1.

Also, we don't technically "own" the games, it called Games WITH gold. You're not paying for the games themselves, you're paying for the Xbox Live service as a whole. The freebies they give us every month are just perks/incentives to try and convince us
to keep subscribing. When you quit paying for Xbox Live, you lose the perks for it, too.

 

pay for gold for the year, cheap, also they change the games monthly but does not mean you lose them, once downloaded you can play them anytime while subbing, if you go silver then re sub you still get access to the games.

 

I actually don't see why people are complaining about this. 60$ a year ( or less if you find a better deal) for four essentially "free" games. Sure they may not be games you like every month, but it's better than nothing.

This month's gwg are actually pretty good in my opinion

Being that I still play both 360 and Xbox One, I happily throw down my $60/year. I'm not much for multiplayer TBH, but I get 4 games every month (2x360, 2xOne). That's 48 games per year, at $1.25 per game.

Try getting that many games at Gamestop, or even from the Xbox store. Sure, the 360 are older games, but they're almost always games I never played. I think it's a GREAT deal!

I mean, I could spend $60 on a brand new game, or $60 for 48 games. I think I'll go for the MASSIVE quantity of playable fun!

 

You pay for a subscription, you get perks. It is just simple as that. If you do not like having to pay then I guess just ride with silver and complain because in reality, Sony started the no access without the subscription first.

 

Wow I had no idea that gold on XB1 was needed. But still, way better games than PS Plus!

As I recall, it was Xbox that started the no access without paid membership (Gold) back in 2002 for the original Xbox.

Can't remember if the PS2 even had an ethernet port. But I do recall that initially, PSN was free up until a few yrs ago and that with it came free games. Then months later Xbox followed suit by offering free game with their paid service.
