Can't play games with gold you own when silver?

Hello,

My Gold membership expired a few days ago and I went to continue playing A Wolf Among Us but Got a message saying renew your gold membership to play this game or something along those lines. Months ago I played a game I got from Games with gold when
my account turned silver. And had no problem playing it. Are we just "renting" these games that we thought were ours to own???

I have the same problem as uH Ginge. I've got the game in April through Games with Gold and i have not played it anymore in the last 2 months i think, but yesterday when i tried to play it i got the message "Do you own this game or app?". I am 100% sure
that the game was downloaded into my account when i had a Gold subscription, and now after i renewed my subscription i can't play the game anymore. The game license can't just disappear...

You can't download Games with Gold with the shared Gold feature. The parent account would need it's own individual membership.

 

Is this in regards to the Xbox One version of the game? Because I heard somewhere that games for gold on Xbox One become unplayable while on a silver account. I believe that's only for Xbox One games though and not Xbox 360 games from GWG.

I may be wrong though, but I swear I heard that somewhere.

 

Dr Black Bones is right. Xbox One Games with Gold games can only be played while you're on a gold subscription. 360 games can still be played if you lose your subscription.

 

Yes that is right for the xbox one and it should be changed. If we own the games we should be able to play them even if our accounts turn silver. Or it seems like they are only rentals.

Yes, GwG titles for the X1 are really just rentals with gold. Even though Wolf amoung us is a last gen title, it is not BC and thus considered current gen, and with all current gen titles is governed by MS and/or Devs DRM policies.

Here's hoping they change Rentals with Gold to actually what it should be...

Free Games with gold that regardless of server outages, whether you renew XBL Gold/Net services or no. You get to play/enjoy Games you aquired while Gold Forever.

As for feedback pages... I don't see where posting suggestions their has ever done any good.

 

on the 360 gwg were rentals then they changed it so you keep the games permanantly.

on the X1 gwg titles are only available with an active subscription, this was stated well before gwg appeared on the X1.

I think gwg are free to keep forever on the 360 as the games are really getting old now but on the one they probably only get a deal to provide as rentals from the publishers, this may change when nearing the end of the X1 life cycle.

 

As others have said, Games With Gold games expire when your Gold Membership expires. You don't have access to them until you renew your subscription. It's pretty fair though, in all honesty you aren't paying for the games, your paying for Xbox Live. The
GWG are just an incentive/perk (whatever you want to call it) for subscribing. Once your subscription ends, so does the perks that come with it.

pretty fair? they are making you pay a fee to play the game for as long as you want to play it. After 3 or four months of paying the fee to play the game, you would have put more money in it than if you just bought the game.

 

Being a gold subscriber has some perks.One of them perks is access to free games.

Why should you still have the perks for being a gold sub if you are not a gold sub?

You can pick up a years gold for about £25/$30, show me where you can get 24 xbox one games for that price?

Its called a racket to have people pay fees to play games. You get the game because you have payed for gold for that games month. Its not like we can download these games anytime of the year. You pay for the games month and you get the game. Now, after that
happins. Trying to charge people a monthly fee to play that game that I just spent money on to have gold that month is just greed on a totally different level. I really like xbox and I enjoy playing xbox, but this is very wrong. A monthly fee to play my game
I bought with my money I spent on gold for that games month? Its wrong........now, I could see if ALL these games with gold were available anytime thur out the year. Not just only for a month and we could rent them with having paying for gold to play them.
I actually think that's not a bad idea, but spending money to buy gold to get that game then charging me a monthly fee to play it isn't right.
