Can't play games? Suspect your gaming Digital Rights (DRM) were blown away by 1811 update. ...

Just for everyone's sake, I have taken
every step from Microsoft and every software company I purchased games from, I've factory reset multiple times in every fashion requested and posted, with one exception, I haven't thrown it against a wall (I actually saw this suggested by a
user). Can't play games? Suspect your gaming Digital Rights (DRM) were blown away by 1811 update. ... :) I even took the system to a Microsoft store over an hour away from me to work through this DRM problem. Sure enough, when they loaded their store demo profile on my system, every game installed and launched properly, so it wasn't the system.
Yet I'm getting a new system sent to me anyway, a waste of money for MS IMHO but that's what they wanted to do.

So after many weeks of independent troubleshooting with EA, Ubisoft and Microsoft, plus correlating the massive problems with Windows 10 October release (XBox OS is windows core based) deleting people's documents, etc. and the post with an admission of "November
    update problems x1x
", it is time to have Microsoft fully step up. The 1811 admission/post is either because MS hasn't looked at the big picture in troubleshooting it, or it is an interesting bit of spin. I want to believe they haven't added up all
the pieces yet but are on the right path...

Bottom line suspicion, the 1811 update appears to have impacted the linkage between XBox Live and their Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), in this case the 'equipment is software. This update looks like it broke the digital rights and corrupting or
deleting gamertags (the foundation of your permission/digital rights to use a software product) in the OEM company servers. I don't have admin rights, so it is only a suspicion based on 20+ years of engineering design and technology industry experience.
It isn't definitive by any stretch, as no one is allowed to escalate to an debug engineer, or as some like to be called, miracle worker.

I'm sure MS is working hard to fix it, however I've not seen one post in which the bigger picture is being discussed, it's always symptoms around the edges or the latest post on 1811 only admitting one symptom scenario. It still has the sledge hammer approach
of blowing away your system profiles with what appears to be the hope that the rebuild pushes out an update to the OEMs as well. It isn't working, so it is time for MS to actually clean up the pushes to the OEMs and clean up the profile mess. Tell your customer
base, if nothing else just to restore a bit of faith that you are thinking Customer In, trying to help with the Customer Experience. Yes, some customers won't take a reasoned approach and will scream no matter the problem. They probably need a puppy to pet
in their safe space, so don't worry about it. Just help the bulk of your customers understand that it will be a bit while you work through the fix but yes, it will get solved way before the end of year break/holiday so they will be able to enjoy their games.
It isn't life or death, it's just entertainment. However, asking people to spend a lot of time doing the same thing for literally days on end, that's impacting the customer's real life outside of gaming. It is time we can spend elsewhere...

    :)

    Xbox One still has DRM.

OP your just trolling now, your console is not bricked because it won't play one game, it plays all the games that were released up until recently.

This is not drm it's an update, just as Microsoft does automatic updates to its OS for years and years.

Which part of 'update' even sounds like Digital Rights Management, which is there to prevent piracy?

Oh, another little important nugget is they reference Forza... a Microsoft Studios game.

It's easier to give away your own game for free then it is to give away a 3rd partys...

    -

I believe over the course of time that was E3, MS released info about publishers being able to implement their own restrictions in regards to DRM and such.

What do you think DRM means exactly?

    Digital Rights Management.

    -

It means they would have the right to say NO to the family share feature for their game...

Do you get any errors when trying to launch a game? That would help us find a solution.

Also, please go to Start > Xbox app > Settings (cog wheel on bottom left) > Network > and see if there's any connection issues.

Some games require online to work, so if your Xbox app can't connect to Xbox servers that could be a cause for this.

Thanks for asking. There are no issue with the network. I've been down that road, as I worked for Cisco and Juniper both. My latency to EA's server is an average of 4ms, no packet drops, etc. I can get to the MS DRM, as a digital download purchase runs
on the system. I am in Northern Virginia, in the heart of the data centers for the east coast. My connection is a fiber to the prem/FiOS from Verizon, and it's 1GB both ways (rated, we know it's a bit off of that of course).

To further isolate the issue to DRM between MS and providers, I reset to factory, erasing everything. Disconnected the system from my 1GB LAN and installed all disc based games and started them up. All except Assasins Creed Unity and Dragon Age: Origins
UE (360 disc) started and ran with no issue. Again, it isn't a system or network issue, it is purely the gamertag/profile that has been corrupted with the 1811 update and not helped with Nov's patch.

The games and system ran fine prior to that update. Ever since, disc based games stopped when they search for the DRM auth to progress for the end user. Dragon Age 2 (360 digital purchase from MS/XBox Live) runs, as that doesn't need DR auth since the
    license was purchased from MS.

You are having trouble with xbox 360 discs? What's the issue with the PC then? You can't play xbox 360 games (or digital versions) on PC/Windows 10.

Can you explain your problem in more detail? From what I can see you are having trouble with windows 10 digital games launching because it may say you don't own it?

How do xbox 360 discs come into play? Discs do not ping any DRM server and they are locally authorized for use by the console.

If you have problems with digital games for windows 10 games bought on the Microsoft Store I suggest talking to support about this as it could be a problem with licenses on your account:
    Contact Us | Xbox Support

Select My Account > No Thanks > Manage account > Show contact options > Chat with xbox support. Ask them about digital games licenses on your account regarding the Microsoft Store.

Hi, not sure if I posted to the wrong place, I thought XBox on console meant XBox system. All of this is about my XBox One X system and gaming. So, do we need to get this moved to a different XBox forum?

    Hello Costa,

Sorry for the issue with the 1811 update. Being that you are in the preview program, the best place to post with this is on the

    forum for the preview program
. They deal with the updates there being they beta tests. This forum is basically for the general audience that aren't in preview. You may

opt out of the preview or go to a lower ring
that get updates later. For example in omega ring you get the update week before it goes to general availability. November patch will have nothing to do with the 1811 update. That strictly for preview.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Thanks Brad:

    1. How do I move this to that forum?
    2. Do I have to yet again create an account on another service?
    3. Will the contributors actually read the post (like you did, thanks!) before generic suggestions
    4. Are the normal outsources Tier 1 support teams in that group or will I get folks who actually understand the overall architecture, since it's a Beta program? (didn't know I was in that group)
    Thanks for the redirect.

    Thanks,

    Costa

    Hello Costa,

    To answer your questions:

    1. You don't need to move this thread. It will stay here as a reference.
    2. You may have to make a reddit account what I did is used my same credentials for the Xbox that way they knew I was in preview.
    3. Yes they will read the post there are people there strictly for preview program. Also many other people in the program post there if they found a fix or temporary solution.
    4. As for Tier 1 support not sure if there are any. There are people that deal with the updates for preview there monitoring the forum, and they do post if an update came out or a fix.
Hope this helps. It a pleasure to help fellow gamers.

    Thanks,

    Brad

  14. This seems very familiar because I can play any DVD but not my games as it's asking for a 4digit family code. This has only been a problem since going online but I've tried factory reset and nothing

    Hello Raphael,

Sorry for your issue. The 4 digit code could be a passkey set up or a verification is needed due to account never verified. Can you please provide more information. Like what the message says in its entirety.

    Thanks,
