Can't play family members digital game

I have an Xbox live account. I have two sons that are family member accounts that use my Xbox live.

One of my sons recently purchased a digital copy of Forza Horizon 4. When i try to play that game I get a message that says he needs to me logged in for the game to work.

I thought people in the same family could play the same games?? If we had purchased a disc version, I could play the game without him.

Also, my other son purchased digital copies of Red Dead II and Rainbow 6 Siege. I can play those games without him being logged in. Do we seriously need to buy multiple copies to play a game on the same Xbox?

The son that purchased Forza would need to set the console as their Home in order to share the game with you. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox

Your other son most likely already has the console set as his Home which is why you can access his games.

Honestly I didn't realize their accounts had a "home console" setting. We just got a Series X and I set it as my home console, but my sons didn't. R other son's games working really had me so confused....

You people crack me up. What is the benefit of family sharing if 2 people couldn't play the game at the same time. LOL. You couldn't play with those family members. Yes if you were finished with a game you could pass it on to a member to play but seriously.
Are you going to wait for cousin Joe to finish HALO 5 until he shares it with you? You can't just share a new release with 4 other consoles and play together.

Family sharing = only 1 person able to play the game at a time.

BIG DEAL! You want family sharing buy the game digitally and give your family member your Gamertag & password. Nearly the same thing.

Agreed. The whole idea of a family gold plan is pretty pointless when all the members can't share the games. Just make sure they are all the same IP and all family members should be able to download and play all DLC. No different then someone going to
the living room to get a game to play in their room. People still pirate, and families miss out.
