    Cant' play backwards compatible games after changing gamertag


    I had changed my gamertag on xbox one from a previous gamertag I used for years on xbox 360 and when I try to play backwards compatibility on my xbox one I receive a message saying to log into my xbox 360 account with my old gamertag, which is now different.
    When I attempt to sign in with my email address and password, the length of my current password is too long to fit in the allowed character limit of the xbox 360 screen prompt. I also tried to hook up my old xbox 360 to try and sign in or change my gamertag
    to my new xbox one gamertag and it lost that profile and I cannot sign in on my 360. Is there any way to link these profiles so I can play backwards compatible xbox 360 games on my xbox one and be able to save them on the xbox one?

    In order to play backwards compatible titles after a gamertag change, all you would need to do is re-download your profile from the Xbox 360 Menu on a backwards compatible title. That should fix it.

    Did not recieve dark souls code.

    even when you get the code you cant play it until they make the game backward compatible!and from what I am hearing that wont be until AFTER dark souls 3 is released! I think we have been duped!

    In order to play backwards compatible titles after a gamertag change, all you would need to do is re-download your profile from the Xbox 360 Menu on a backwards compatible title. That should fix it.

    Is this the first 360 backwards compatible game that you have tried playing?

    Have you changed your gamertag recently?

    Does it happen with any other backwards compatible games?

    What exactly is happening when you try and load the game up does it just go to that error immediately?

    Did you go through the process of changing your gamertag? If so then the change is reflected across the whole system but may take a little time to show up on your account. Try deleting your gamertag then redownload it to see if it shows up for you.

    Also, please remember that if you are on the Xbox One you will need to delete then redownload your gamertag from the backwards compatible menu in order to play backwards compatible games. You can follow the instructions in this video to do that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl551gGi7Pk

    Backwards compatible games requiring re-purchase on Xbox One?

    Changing your email wouldn't disassociate your account from your achievements or purchases. Perhaps the games were purchased on a different account though. On the 360 if a game was downloaded directly to the console (even if purchased by a different gamertag)
    then the game would be playable by all gamertags on that console.

    As for the achievements please try launching a backwards compatible game then follow the instructions in the video below to delete then redownload your tag via the backwards compatible menu. After that, play a BC title and earn an achievement. Hopefully
    within a couple of weeks after that any older 360 achievements should show up in your account.
