Can't play 0xc00d11cd (0x80070001) error - Large external hard drive problem

Hello

I have a large digital movie collection, and I've consolidated all my files from small driver drives to a large drive for convenience. But when I start filling the drive to capacity, the Xbox One (X1) throws up this error. It's not a format issue as these
files all play fine via the smaller drives.

ERROR: Can't play. Please try again. If the problem continues, visit [...] 0xc00d11cd (0x80070001)

Smaller drives: 1 and 2 TB

Large drives: 5TB and 8 TB

Any assistance would be helpful. More posts to follow. I keep getting an error when I try to add too much in this box.

Actually it could well be a format issue. I found countless unanswered requests about situations like yours in these forums.

And it really seems to be the same issue I was experiencing:

• partition <= 2TB: all media content (mkv in my case) is playing fine
• partition > 2TB: content added after 2TB cannot be played by the Xbox One (0xc00d11cd)

What worked for me is to format the partition in MBR. The only tool I found that is able to perform this with a larger than 2TB partition is WD Quick Formatter.

I spent a month trying crazy things to make it work before WD Quick Formatter saved me from insanity.

 

I also tried to format my large 8tb usb drive to MBR but I don't think that's the solution since all partitions formated to MBR will automatically limit themselves to 2tb. So my 8tb drive will shrink to 2tb using MBR. I believe somehow Microsoft is limiting
all large drives to 2tb even tho they say Xbox One is compatible with drives up to 16tb. It makes no sense.
