    Can't make Games save to external drive


    My Xbox One does recognise my external drive however it automatically set it up as a media drive without asking. I wish to set it up for gaming and I have looked at many guides online however I have had no success. They all say to go to your storage
    and select formatting however I have the latest update for Xbox One and this is not there, the guides even on this site are for a previous update.

    External Hard Drive on the Xbox One

    Is there a way to save my save data on my internal hard drive and then save my game data on the external? I want to make sure my game saves are protected if my external hard drive crashes.

    Harddrive questions

    You can't disable the internal hard drive. Go ahead and attach an external hard drive and move all you games/apps/saves to it and run your games from the external drive.

    If I recall you should be able to make the drive default place to download. Anything that you have currently on the console would have to be transferred to the external drive.
    ok,so I can just save to the external drive right? Otherwise I have to use it as a default drive and everything would have to be transferred to that drive? Wow they can't come up with a update to download to that drive,like you can save to it?

    Sorry to here this, Have to ask if you using a external hard drive at all? have to ask due to there is a way to saved clips on external hard drive. It is extremely odd for it to delete games from reinstalling a game. Can't say I have heard of that one

    The small print at the bottom of the page that I linked for you mentions:

    "USB flash drive is not a hard drive."

    Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto an external hard drive.

    if I set an external drive as my primary storage, where do all of my local game saves get stored?

    are my game saves stored on the external drive, too? or are they still saved on the internal drive?
