Can't login to old xbox account... Why doesn't my Microsoft Account (LiveID) follow ...

Roughly 7 or 8 years ago, I bought an Xbox and created a gamertag for my new online profile. (I believe this was back before all Xbox gamertags were associated with a "Microsoft Account" or "Live ID".)

Then, about 5 or 6 years ago, I bought the new Xbox 360 to replace it. Rather than transferring over my old gamertag to the new console, I just created a brand new gamertag, with a new email address used to register the online profile. I essentially left
the original gamertag alone for years.

Flash forward to a couple weeks ago. On a whim, I tried to change my current/new gamertag to the same name that I registered years ago. (I was guessing it could possibly be available again due to such a long period of inactivity.) After checking to see if
it was ever purged or re-registered, I was surprised to find that the gamertag is still in use. And to my delight... I'm apparently still the owner! I was obviously excited, because I thought that if I could still remember my login information I could probably
recover the account. (I was a little fuzzy on the exact password, but figured I could always do a password reset.)

My next step was obviously to see if I could login to the Microsoft Account that should be associated with this profile by visiting "login.live.com" and typing in the original email address. I gave it a try, but unfortunately I was met with an
error stating that there is no Microsoft Account associated with the address I provided. (This is obviously a big problem!) Because I was 100% certain that this email address is the one associated with my old Xbox account, I called Microsoft/Xbox customer
support to see if they could help me figure out why I couldn't use it to login as a Live ID.

Microsoft/Xbox support requested the gamertag so they could send a verification code to the email address associated with the account, so I gave it to them. I promptly received the code in my old email inbox, and read it back the service representative.
At this point, she informs me that because I gave them the code and proved I was the owner of the account, they could now give me my Microsoft Account ID. Success! (Or so I thought....)

However, my Account ID was apparently not the same as the email address I used to register. For the sake of example, let's pretend my old gamertag was: "abc10". Well, the service representative informs me that my Microsoft Account ID is registered
as "abc10.owner"! Uhhhhh... what? (At this point, we are both trying to figure out why it is not an email address.) The service representative tells me to attempt to type it in on "login.live.com" so I can go through the password
reset steps, but the only problem is I keep getting the following error when I input this ID:

"Please enter your email address in the format *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***."

The customer service representative then informed me that she would have to escalate my issue to the Microsoft Customer Advocacy and Exceptions department, and that I should expect a follow up within about a week. I have not heard back from anyone up to
this point, but it is still early.

I hope that my issue can be resolved, but I am still left wondering how this could have happened. I was really hoping someone could shed some light on the evolution of the Microsoft Account (i.e. "Live ID".) Was there ever a point in time that this Microsoft
Account ID could be registered as anything other than an email address? Alternatively, is there any way of knowing what happened to the rest of all the first-generation xbox gamertags that may not have been previously associated with a Microsoft account?
Surely, these can't have all been automatically assigned a Live ID in the format of "gamertag.owner".

I realize that this is an off-the-wall type of question, and that an outstanding ticket with the Customer Advocacy group would make posting this question here seem superfluous... but at this point I'm really just trying to satisfy my curiosity as to what exactly
happened to my account. Hopefully someone has some insight into the whole process of how these xbox gamer profiles are linked to Microsoft account logins.

    :)

Do media licenses belong to you XboxLive account or your WindowsLiveID?

If my gamer tag FreshGroundFX is associated with my LiveID *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***, and using my Xbox360 I buy a show, which account does the license belong to?
    1. Does the license (to play the show) belong to FreshGroundFX or does it belong to *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***?

    2. Can I change the LiveID (associated with FreshGroundFX) to another LiveID *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. *** and still be able to play my show?

Will account swap be made possible again anytime soon?

    Hi.

    I have today....

'ProfileA' with 'GamertagA' under which I have all my achievements and saved games.

'ProfileB' with 'GamertagB' which I created to try out xbox live. I connected this profile to my main e-mail account *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***'.

Now I would like 'ProfileA' and 'GamertagA' to be associated with the xbob live account with the address *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***'. I am fine with losing any saved games and achievments on 'profileB', but want to keep the saved games and achievemtns on 'profileA'.

Xbox doesn't let me join xbox live with ProfileA and *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***', it says that account is in already in use. It seems that it has previously been possible to change the xbox live account associated with ProfileB (thereby freeing up *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***'), but now
I am directed to 'xbox.com/AccountSwap' which tells me that option is no longer available.

As it seems now, I have to

    1. create a temporary email adress *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***', with also creates a new microsoft account.

    2. change the e-mail associated to my old microsoft account to *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***', thereby freeing up *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***' for making a new microsoft account and a new xbox profile.

    3. Log into xbox as ProfileA, and "join xbox live", entering *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***', which should now be available. a new microsoft account and xbox live account are now created.

    4. (optional) delete my old microsoft account, which is now associated with *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***'. This also deletes 'ProfileB'

    5. ProfileA is now connected to xbox live using *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***'.

This is messy and will also delete everything else from my old microsoft account, except the e-mail adress.

    My questions are:

Is my above procedure the correct one?

Will it be made possible anytime soon to again change xbox live account for a certain profile?

  4. Can't login to old xbox account... Why doesn't my Microsoft Account (LiveID) follow ...

Hey mate, I will first say that keeping on top of following up with the advocacy team is going to be your best bet in getting this resolved and unfortunately I wasn't around for the original Xbox days so I'm only going to have a shot at what I think may
    have happened.

If the original gamertag was on the original Xbox console and LIVE service then it is completely the in realm of possibility that an email account was not needed during that period, I can't fully confirm that though as I never used the original service.

Though if you don't believe you needed an email associated with the tag back then (FYI you've always needed an email associated with a gold/silver subscription on the 360 as far as I can remember) so maybe in the migration from the old Xbox to the 360 it
was automatically give then gamertag.owner to keep the gamertag active as it would have disappeared into the abyss without some kind of email entered.

That is all hypothetical based on my experience, as I've said I did not use the original live service so have no idea the ins and outs of the migration of gamertags between the two and if the gamertag was only started on the 360 then I have no idea how that's
happened and I'd strongly suggest following up with Xbox support on a regular basis, even if they don't get back to you.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Since it's so old...there is no way to recover it because there is no Windows Live ID (Microsoft Account) associated with it. I have an account that I'd like to recover as well from years ago, but it's lost.

I'm afraid it's gone for good my friend.

  6. ^That's not true at all mate, my friend's email expired on his account and managed to get it back through Xbox Support which is the same as not having an email associated with it.

Thanks for the responses, but I thought I should definitely update this thread once more with the message I recently received from the Customer Advocacy representative.

By my own admission, I was not expecting to be able to recover the account in the first place... but still, I was hoping for an intelligible reply to my service request. Unfortunately, I can't help but feel extremely dissatisfied with response I received
from the Customer Advocacy Team. As an (obviously) long-standing customer, I feel very offended that a Microsoft customer service representative would cut off correspondence with their client/customer in such an arbitrary fashion, without offering any further
assistance, alternative solution(s), or opportunity for further questions.

Also, after explaining that there is no way to recover/convert my gamertag over to the new system (despite my ability to prove that I am indeed the original account holder...) I would at the very least expect for all of the personal information (email,
phone, etc.) associated with my inaccessible and un-retrievable account to be removed from their databases. Otherwise, why retain it at all? I spent quite a long time on the phone with customer representatives that feigned being able to provide assistance
to me on the basis of my information appearing as a legitimate account in their system.

I guess at the end of the day, I'm no worse for wear... but I am extremely upset that ANY customer representative thinks it's appropriate to advise "Sorry, but it just doesn't work that way" and then cut off correspondence with a vested customer who has
been with them for almost a decade. It's pretty pitiful, if you ask me.... but read for yourselves:

    Hi XXXXX,

My name is XXXXX and I am with the Xbox Customer Care Advocacy Team. I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us in regards to your Xbox LIVE account. Rest assured that I am committed to resolving your issue quickly and efficiently.

The Gamer Tag "XXXXX" has been attached to a V1 Xbox account since 1/16/2005. All Xbox users were given ample notice about the conversion from V1 to the new version of Xbox Live accounts. If for any reason a user did not change their credentials or switched
over to the new version: it is now permanently stuck/attached to the V1 account and cannot be re-associated to the new Xbox Live account; do to strenuous technical reasons the GT "XXXXX" will not and cannot be released or deleted from its setting.

I apologize that Microsoft Support agents cannot further assist with this issue and I will be closing your service request which closes all email correspondence regarding the matter.

I hope you understand that we value your loyalty to the Xbox LIVE service and we hope that you can continue to enjoy the unique Xbox LIVE experience

    Sincerely,

Can't login to old xbox account... Why doesn't my Microsoft Account (LiveID) follow ...

Digital: It requires an email and password to recover. Otherwise it's lost. I've made multiple attempts, one being within the last 3 months, to get it back. I have all of the original information including my old address and card number. Nothing can be done.

    Slightly different digital

There is no way to recover not migrated accounts that don't have eemails

Th Xbox live servers for originals are gone

Where the live I'd system still exists and the ms account still exists

There is a special form that has to be filled out for the expired Windows live I'd

A friend went thru the system and after 5years he gave up on helping his mother

I helped him by telling him wwhat to ask for he got it and recovered his mother's account

The email was easy as it didn't rely on the Xbox servers but the live servers which are different

Xbox original servers before they switched to the email system you only had to login there was no recovery etc unless you had it stored on memory card

At the last year's of original they added the email live system

Then they had people migrate and some people didn't et recovery stuff

  10. Though this is under the assumption that he is actually talking about an original Xbox ID that was never migrated?

What I meant was you can definitely get back a 360 gamertag where the email has expired or whatever the case may be. I have no idea about the migration process and original Xbox ID's. It sounded like Tye was trying there was no way to get a 360 tag back.

Thanks for that info though Ngocphi, I will keep that in mind for next time.

How can I change region in my xbox live account?

I understood that I can't change region for this account, but may be I can change LiveID for this Xbox live account or cancel it and create a new one for my LiveID with new region? Content isn't important, but LiveID is important.

Parental Acccount does not exist, TOU Agreement

Hi again everyone, if you have been attempting to reset your password via the "Can't access my account" feature and you are being given a message that the Windows Live/Microsoft account is invalid or doesn't exist, I suggest bringing this to the attention
of the Microsoft Account team which can be contacted via forum post at the following address:

If you do follow through and create a post on the website, I can recommend hanging onto any emails that you have recieved from the failed recovery attempts in case they ask for information such as the "Issue number."

    Updated terms of agreement

Sadly, this is something that Xbox Support cannot help you with.

Have you tried resetting the password? If not, try to using this link
    account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx

If that doesn't solve the problem, try to fill out the Microsoft Account recovery form

If none of those steps work, you can post on the Microsoft Account team using this link

    Delete Xbox account

Is there a specific reason why you wish to create a new Xbox Account?

Be aware, that if you follow Spazpol's advice, and move your Gamertag over to the new Microsoft Account by adding the new Microsoft Account email as a login-alias, setting that as primary, and then removing your old Microsoft Account, the old Microsoft Account
    gets deleted!!!

Since you don't want to delete your Microsoft Account, it would help if you explained your reasons for deleting your Xbox Account a bit more.
