Can't join friend Minecraft worlds

I've had this issue for roughly a year where I can't join a friend's world (nor can they join mine) but I can join their realms. It doesn't matter if I play on my PC or my XBox, I still get the Unable to Connect to World error. I have tried playing with privacy settings in my XBox but it still doesn't seem to work. I checked the firewall settings on my PC and that also seems to be fine.

If this is happening on both devices and you’ve already managed your privacy settings, you may need to reach out to Mojang in that way they can check if there is an issue with your in-game account or to perform advanced troubleshooting steps:

Is it possible that one of you or your friends has joined the Minecraft Beta Insider program?

If so, you probably have different versions of the game, and only players with the same Minecraft version can join each other's worlds.

Check that you all have either the official Minecraft version of 1.11.4. If one (or more) have the current Beta version of 1.13.something, then you can't join each other's worlds.

hello minecraft only allows you to join your friend's games to avoid people joining random people's worlds and destroying em, so no games will be on the list unless your friend has minecraft and is online in his/her world.
